Just filled the tank up with £80 of diesel ready for laning on Saturday & then found that the alternator has packed up - i am gutted, can anybody tell me if a 200tdi Alternator is the same as the 300tdi disco?

No its different mate, mountings are different and 300 is polly vee belt 200 is stock vee belt :(

take it to your local lucas type agent or autoelectrician - theres not normally much wrong with them and they can fix for about£30
