What should i do?

After removing the bumper i noticed  the rear body x member had rotted all way through, and at least a 1/4 of each sill had rotten too,
The rest of the disco seems pretty solid, and has been faultless for nearly a year.

Should i A, get it all welded up with nice new bits

or B: Throw the money i would spend above and p/x for a 5 door,
though   i dont mind the three door, and im eager to get some mods done,

PPPPPPPPPlease help, i'm sure a couple of you have been in this situation before

You won't get much in part exchange with these problems. If everything else is sound, I would be inclined to weld it and then make sure everything is well painted and waxoiled after. That way, you know you have a solid car to work from.

Al on here is local and will weld it up for sensible money.

i`d check your boot floor aswell, if the x-members gone, chances are its spread from the boot floor! (mine has just been replaced, and was quite bad!)

After an hour or so i finally got the carpet out and the nice thick soundproofing,
The floor doesnt seem too bad only a couple of holes where the screwdriver eventually went through,

I suppose if i compensated doing the suspension myself, i might as well get the floor done as well, time i started learning !!!

cut the old one off weld ona  new one for not much more and half as much hassle ull never regret it

Muddy . . . . Al is doing a lot of welding work through Ray at 4X41 up past Grangemoor roundabout on the Huddersfield road . . . . give him a call and he'll put you on to him. Let him know the RiffRaff lads put you on to him and he should sort you  :wink:

I chopped my floor out and was still driving around in mine, just doing a little at a time, the best thing you can do is buy the new panels and cut the old out and prep the area for welding, that should cut down on welding costs if your paying someone else to help you

Well it's worth nowt as it is, so spend the money, get it fixed and keep it, safe inthe knowledge that it's reliable rather than buy another car that someone else it sick of.

I've played with two of these now, on mine it was a plate up job and repair one rear body mounting, as the corners were still attached ok, on my mates we replaced a whole floor (right up to the vertical panels), but before that we replaced the whole rear cross member

A bit harder as you have to get it rotated right so not to knock the door frame out of line where the hinges are, also some of the access is behind the ally skins, worked out ok in the end, just a case of trial and error to line up

well i got quoted just under £200 for the rear xmember (boot floor patching up)and the sills doing,

least it will be nice and solid when its finished, then i can start doing some mods on it !!!

Make sure they underseal or coat everything in hammerite while they can get to everything when the floor is out. My rear x member is the next job I have to do, oh joy oh joy  :cry:

£200 would buy you your own welder.

Add on the cost of panels, about £60 fpr consumables, £20 for a decent mask, some gloves etc.

Plus all the paint.

Migh cost a bit more this time but you end up with a welder.

well after all the if's, but's, and so -on's my disco is booked in for surgery this monday coming, after feeling like a little kid and all excited, i just cant wait to start doing mods as soon as possible,

i will take some photos before and after,

new rear x member
polybush kit
new gas shocks and heavy duty springs all round.
