Hello everyone,just joined the club and bought my first range rover this
week. [4 door 3.5efi Fplate]. just a quick question,whats involved in
 bobtailling it? iam a mechanic/welder with full workshop facilities

Discovery 200tdi - Charity - went past her expiry date

Someone asked about bobtails on the rangie list I'm on,
Just wondered if you had joined from the list.

I got mine as an un-finished project and the cut and shut had

There have been one or two articles recently in some of the comics, but also try the 'modified vehilces' section as I'm sure I've seen something about this before.

Are you intending to lift the body away from the chassis at the same time, because that effects where you want to cut the chassis, if you cut it ahead of the tank then you can raise the rear crossmember in relation to the chassis and gain useful extra clearence!
Cut the rear outer wings along the seam, you then only need to remake one edge each side
I'd advise cutting the roof very near the back, if possible make use of the clips that cover existing joints in the gutter and overlap the two halves of the roof before joining them.  Are you any good at welding aluminium? the roof is often one of the worst parts of either bobtailing or a pick-up conversion.
You'll need a bespoke fuel tank, trim and carpets
You'll also need the glass cutting short
the 'easy' bit is shortening the body, if you're not up to this then don't even think about the rest of it!
I'd advise looking at a few Rangie in pieces and try to visualise all the parts that are involved in the project before you start.

Thanks for the info guys,ill have to speak to my boss nicely so i can strip
 it down and do it in the workshops. doesnt look too bad to do.ill let youknow how i get on.[might end up as abox of bits for sale]

If the bobtail goes wrong you could go to plan B and build a pick-up.
