Door Locks
« on: December 12, 2007, 13:25:43 »
Right, 300TDi and I am having an ongoing problem with the central locking on the doors.

The locks sometimes don't work when I hit the alarm button and I have to lock down the doors with the key.

This is a problem as I have an aftermarket alarm fitted and this fires off the standard alarm when I unlock the doors with the aftermarket remote fob or fires the standard alarm if I use the standard fob . . . . . gets a bit embarrasing with all the bells and buzzers going off late at night outside my house . . . .

Any ideas as to what I can do to get the locks to work properly, from the remote fobs again, would be appreciated.

Hi Tyke,

When they don't work, is it a case that they don't work at all or do the doors lock and then unlock themselves straight away?

If it's the latter then it might just need adjustment of one of the rods connecting the servo to the door button. I've had this problem on at least two of my Discoveries (including the current one) and adjusting the rod has worked each time.

HTH  :)

It's an intermittent fault guys.

Sometimes they lock and sometimes they don't.

Up to now they have not unlocked themselves.

Will pull off the door cards at the weekend and see what adjustment is available and maybe give them a dose of lubrication at the same time.

This sounds like it could be the old problem of the door lock springs, I had the same issue with my 1995 300tdi, I ended up changing broken springs on 4 of the 5 door locks. Its a bit of a fiddly job (especially the rear door) but cheap to fix, I bought the springs on ebay for about £10.

Good luck!

Is it all or none?  In which case it's not so likely to be the door locking mechanisms, more like the electronics.

If you need new door solenoids, Maplins sell compatible ones for about 7 quid each.  Can't remember the part number but I can look it up if you need.

I suspect it's the electrics as it only happens on the driver door.

If locked/unlocked manually all the other locks close/open together.

I'll rip the door cards off at the weekend and have a look.
