It's definately got slower over the last week or so. A bit earlier than normal.

The funny thing is we all expect next day delivery with 1st class post.... but it isn't actually guaranteed and never has been.

If you dig out your history books, you'll find that even when the mail was being moved by horse and carriage, it often made its destination next day.... truly stunning

And another thing we often aren't aware of..... We are one of the few countries in Europe, or even the world, that gets private mail delivered to our door. Most places, you have to go and collect it from a local Post Office.

Despite the complaints about our postal service, particularly in recent times, we do get a far better service than just about anywhere else.

Hi,

our work post has got later and later (mostly since the strikes) so that we now get it around 2pm in the afternoon - this is not helpful for the company - and occasionally the postie does not even bother delivering it.

we rely a lot on the post as we are a civil engineering company and get a lot of drawings sent to us so we are very disgruntled.

regards

I have a plan, everytime you see an IDOL, UNION LAZY LAYABOUT POSTIE, just punch them...right between the eyes....
Our local posties are going on strike from the 18th Dec, 'til after Xmas...
They should sack 'em all for gross misconduct.....

Trouble with the modern day postal service (royal mail) are:-
1/ Agency staff (low paid, can't be bothered to read addresses properly).
2/ No competition.
3/ Poor management decisions (ie cost cutting at our expense).
4/ Unions. (now before i get any flack.... read on...)

As Greeni mentioned, Burslem (stoke on Trent) are going on strike, apparently due to some workers being suspended due to bullying/harrassment. Why on earth do the union drag everyone out on strike because of this???? Surely it would make more sense to investigate the problem more thoroughly...ie was there any bullying etc, who witnessed it etc. Now i'm all for unions, they can be a godsend at times.... but this is just a big fiasco.
Royal mail should do all they can to ensure we get our mail over xmas, even if it means bringing in folk from out of town. (After all, we aint done nothing wrong).

Here here.

I used to be a postie and loved thejob. It does up set me to read about people complaining about the system as it is infact a very good system, except for those up high. the posties on the ground do actually do everything they can to get the mail out. I cant vouch for those in the big sorting depots sorting the mail out to the right offices.

I am still in contact with my mate in RM and know what is happening inside there and about the stupid cost cutting exercises the managers have planned. They are now even being rationed to the amount of elastic bands they can have in a week, (1 handful) Now how can posties do thier job properly when they arent allowed to have the tools to do thier job? This is what annoyed me when I was there.

The job on paper is fantastic, in real life when the high all mighties have a cunning plan then it goes belly up.

I think a card to take 4 days to come through at this time of year is fantastic service. Again when I used to be a postie , the 2 weeks before xmas day I used to get in 45 hours overtime a WEEK. this involved working from 4am-7:30pm mon-fri sat 4am-midday ish and then on Sunday going in for a few hours to do an afternoon collection. No doubt other posties are slogging thier guts out too to get the post flowing.

I say hats off to the guys and hope they have a very merry xmas. :D

Our local sorting office is excellent - they deliver at about 9am every day. However, even they despair of the next office up the line!

IM SURE THEY ARE NOT ALL THIEVING LAYABOUTS IN THE POST OFFICE, BUT THOSE THAT ARE SEEM TO MAKE THE WHOLE SYSYTEM CRAP.
I CANNOT BRING MYSELF TO LOOSE ANYMORE GOODS WITH THEM, AND WILL NOT BUY FROM ANYONE WHO SENDS WITH THEM.

So is ours.  The guy that brings the parcles is a star, if I'm not in they often come back later or hide it somewhere I'll find it (not the bin I hasten to add).

Recently I thought something hadn't been delivered, turned out the dog had pushed it behind the curtain
