iv got pretty much the same problem in my vit, 2wd works fine but when you select 4wd in hi or low box its only pushing with the rear wheels... any ideas ?

any idea if the ratios and fitments are different in a 16 valve and an 8 valve transfer box, mine is an 8 v but i think i may be able to get a 16 v box quite easily

they are all the same.
have you jacked the front of the car up and tried to turn the prop with the hubs locked and the t case in 2wd.
if the wheels turn its a t case problem, if they dont its a diff problem.
