its stuck on, take the keys out of the ignition and lock it up its still on but turn the ignition on and it goes out ??? :evil: anyone got any ideas because in lost on this one

The diode pack in the alternator has gone, time to rebuild it.

Diode pack is toast :(

Get it rebuilt, not too expensive and they'll service it too.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

cheers  :) il buy a new one an get my old one serviced it means iv always got a spare  :D  it wouldnt be anythin to do with mud would it???  :lol:  :lol:  :lol:

Its possible, but unlikeley. The diode pack is the big chunk of electronics on the back, the symptoms you describe would need a diode to break down, thats an electronic failure rather than mechanical.

They can be damaged though if the comutator is playing up, that the brass rings that feed power to the rotor coil (feild coil).  It's the only moving part other than th bearings.
