Simex or Insa Turbo?

Hi all,

Been looking around for tyres as my Grizzley Claws have about had it! But im struggling to find what i want!

Im after a 33x12.5r15 but dont seem to be able to find any listing of the Insa Turbo Special Track in that size (seems most are 16inch for you landrover owners) and the only thing i can find close enough for Simex is the Jungle Trecker 2 34x11.5r15 and i want the Extreme Trekker!

Anyone know of any good suplliers where i might find the right size? :?  :?

But where can i get the right size from? Been on Devon 4x4's site and they dont seem to list the size im after and they seem a little expensive from what i remember :shock:  I could be wrong though :oops:

why dont you want the jungle trekker ?
there a damn good tyre,
far better waring than the ET,
better on rocks
better in certain mud types
less brutal on the half shafts, diffs and cv's
just a thought to consider

sorry, buts whats the obsession with wide tyres ?

thinner are better IMO

btw IIRC they do a 34, 11.50 x 15 its actualy a smidge over 12inch wide when on rim  
my simex are 10.5's...they measured 11.5

Might seem like an obsession by most people but i have my reasons!

The Hilux axles are not as wide as frontera axles by nearly 1 1/2 inches, so i need to go as wide as possible for stability especially when the truck is 11 inch over stock height :shock:  I dont fancy running spacers on 10J rims with a negative 21 offset on a truck that weighs in at 2400kg's , so really nice wide tyres it has to be

Just how much do you want an extreme trekker tread pattern over any tread pattern?

kumho do the KL71 in 33x12.50 or alternatively something like super swampers, they do a 33x13.50 version of the LTB tread.

I have a set of LTBs waiting for the V8, but I need to sort out the wheel arches first before I can test them in anger.

Wide tyres can be a good thing, though the ideal width is very terrain dependant. The same goes for the tread pattern as well.

My mate has that size KL71 on his RR.
Excellent tyre especially on road for something with such open tread. Amazingly quiet and grippy.

Funny i have been just looking at them!
I have been looking to get the best off road tyre i can afford in the size i want, but didnt expect it to be so difficult :shock:  If i find the Simex are out of my price range then the KL 71's may be my next best bet

After Jakes post i decided to ring Devon 4x4 today and the prices on the website are quite a bit different :shock:

Got myself a set of 33x11.5 r15 jungle trekkas and a set of 10j rims on order!

Xmas present to myself :D  Dont know what SWMBO is gonna say though :?  :?

They have managed to find a wheel supplier that has some rims with a negative offset, so should be ok

No i didnt, and its not all ended that well either :(

Unfortunatley they got the rim size wrong and i was sent 7J's from there supplier when i had asked for 10J's! And unfortunatley there suppliers cannot get any 10J's so i have had to order them from elsewhere and now wont get them till the new year

I have got a decent set of 255x75 Wranglers on 7J's at the mo, I was hoping to get the tyres and rims sorted out before the new year as time is limited after the 1st with a laning trip planned for the 11th, 12th & 13th

Not realy, the standard frontera rims dont have a very good negative offset. Any articulation and i think these tyres would rip out the inner arches :shock:

Look so much better than the worn out grizzleys though dont they

Have to admit, im glad i decided to go for the Simex! They look a quality tyre and im looking forward to trying them out on the rocky lanes we have planned for January

How much did you end up paying for the simex's?

I keep looking at kumho kl71's but im not sure they will cope in mud and them simexs look sooooooooooooo much better  :D  :D

mark, just make sure you let them down to 18psi offroad  

here is a tip for you though
to soften the side walls up as there megger stiff
when you fit them, drive 5 miles or so on them with only about 10psi in, they soften up a treat and there way better offroad then when let down    

the advantage of the JT's aswel is....you can do a 5mm re-cut on them when there low
