network printing with vista 64 bit
« on: December 19, 2007, 15:44:26 »
got this installed the other day and i like it a lot but one thing bugs me (well other than the lack of direct access to configuring devices) is that i cannot connect to a printer on another machine which is running xp

prior to this the pc im on had xp and the printing worked fine, but now its on vista, hp said i dont need drivers for the printer as they are already on it (they are of sorts) i can connect the printer up via usb to the pc but the printer is normally in the garage out of the way, and i dont fancy walking down to fetch the printer every time i want to print something and bring it back up to the office to hook it up.

ive tried to google for this witout much luck,

what is annoying is that if you connect it locally its fine and dandy but not via network says it cannot find the required drivers

anyone got any suggestions?

its a hp5552 printer btw

cheers
d

Simple suggestion, take Vista off and install XP.  Why use bloatware when you can use the tried and tested.

Then set it up as a re-direct local port if it works locally it will work on the network as long as you configure it correctly.
