anyone had job agencies try and match you up with a job? i only ask as i,ve just applied for a job thru an agency and the prospective employer has told me that the fee the agency would charge him if they gave me the job would be around £4000 :shock:  which is kinda putting them off employing me :?

Could you not tell the prospective new employer that you will come back in the new year to deal with them direct ?

I work in Facilities management and generally the agenncy can ask for as much as a quarter of the first year sallery, we recently had to pay two 8k installments as an introduction fee for our new manager!!!!!

 i could do i dont hink it would matter as i,v not signed up for anything i suppose it depends whether the employer has signed up for anything :?

That sounds about right, if our firm takes somebody from a agency they have to pay up to 13 weeks wages

Hello chap, after 13 weeks you are no longer classed as a temporary worker, the employer has the ability to take you on without penalty or fee. There are guide lines for employment agencies to follow and this is in a section of the rules and procedures, if I remember what they are I'll let you know

Hello.

The employer will have a contract with the agency that states that if they take on any person that has been "introduced" by the agency within usually 1 year of the introduction they are liable to pay the agency.  This sounds harsh but at the end of the day the agency is not there for free (the job center do that) and if it was per job not person anyone could just blag it, not hire you and then take yo on a month later for a different job.

If the employer is saying that he cant afford to pay the agency then he shouldnt have gone through them.  Some people go agency and local ads/job centrers but it doesent man they can expect to circumvent the agencies Terms and Conditions, after all if you applied through the agency then they have done thier job by attracting the right person.

If you ever see a job with an agency that looks good its worth trying to find it outside them (e.g google for it and find the employer or ask people in that biz etc) but one you have gone via the agency they have dibbs on you.

I dont work for one, but have recruited via and been recruited via, so know how it goes.  Obviously all contrzcts are different but most  ones iv seen for temsp or perms in IT are well locked in for the employer.

I never use recruitment agencies for this very reason, despite getting inundated with calls from them whenever I advertise a post. £4000 is not a high amount for them.
