Overheating??
« on: December 22, 2007, 13:14:00 »
Just wanted 2 rattle every1's brains!

Took jeep the other week and got real muddy, when coming home, it started 2 overheat. Thinking it was the mud on rads etc., took time 2 strip what i could out of the way and jet wash.

Now this seemed 2 do the job.............however, couple of days later overheating returned though not bad enough 2 cause 2 much concern!, water seemed fine, just low, so started thinking thermostat, maybe leak? but couldn't hear any knocking, and wasn't overheating enough 4 me 2 think Head Gasket, plus wasn't losing any power at all.

But yesterday started overheating real bad and throwing out loads of water from rad area?? and not losing any from expansion bottle, but was now some crap and oil in water. Now i started 2think Head!!!. Took it 2 Cowley's/Whaddon, but they're closed till new year, so after refilling water in2 rad, i made my way back. Strange thing..............didn't overheat at all coming back.
Now a mukka of mine says could be Oil pump or even the Intercooler, which would also explain oil in water, not Head Gasket.

Any1 got thought's, though will be taking it back to Cowley's and let them sort it, as 2b honest, haven't got time or savi 2 sort out!!!

the rad is full of mud still, the only way to get it all out, is remove the rad. :(
2.5 diesel, I take it. notorious for overheating
I would say that either one of the heads is cracked, or head gasket has gone
Don't ask how I know all this

It is virtually impossible to clean the rads without removal, they are too close together.

Got to say it would seem like it has got hot for the last time until you investigate further, if you have oil in your water or visa versa you can put your money on the head gasket failed. They don't seem to mind getting a little warm but they hate getting really hot. Not too bad a job though apart from the weight of the head.

don't get too carried away with engine strip, I have engine out of 1997 cherokee that you could have for £200, I believe it's a good'un, i bought as part of a job lot and lots of other parts have been used and have been fine so no reason to think any different, parts were from accident damaged vehicle which had done just over 100000 miles, oil is clean that's in it, manifolds, etc are still fitted so wouldn't be a big job to swap over,
