Front Diff Replacment, Any Help Would be Great
« on: December 25, 2007, 11:18:43 »
Hi all, further to my last post have figured out the whining noise on my 90 is coming from the front diff, can see where it's throwing out oil out of the back of the diff where the prop joins it which prob means bearings are shot aswell (causing whining), sound like a good diagnosis? Going to replace the whole diff, never done it before, do I have to remove the two halfshafts in order to get it out? I'm guessing I do. Any help would be great.
Thanks all.

Yes undo the 4 prop bolts (14mm) and drop the prop down, slide the short stubby halfshafts out, undo all the front hub bolts, slide the hub and halfshafts out about 6 inches (watch the brake lines) undo all bolts around the diff (after youve drained it)and pull the diff out and its a tight fit and v heavy.....good luck :D

all coil sprung vehicles are 3.54 ratio

just have to make sure you get the correct spline as there is 2 options 10 & 24 spline

If yours is an early 90 itll be a 10 spline (the cheapest!) 24 spline wont fit they are usually from td5,s :D

not quite

90's & 110s from approx 84-93 are 10 spline

there are some late 200tdis that have 24 spline axles but in general anything from 94 onwards will be 24 spline
