Cut N Shut?

OK, I know its not legal for cars, but

I'm talking sections on a ladder chassis car. So could I legally slice off non structural panels from one and weld on tother?

In particualr, thinking of the innder wings, light trays etc. The strengthening spars on the insides of the wings are intact so they would stay there with the replacement panels going in around them. Same with the body mounts on the front.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

yes for the lot but take extra procaution around the body mount making sure the welds are extremely strong

It is legal A mate has a shortened Vauxhall astra belmont which has had the front seats section cut out and the whole backend moved forwards and welded back together. So that you sit on the back seat to drive. it's also had the roof completely removed. Stretch limo's are cut and shut jobs that have had a section inserted into them.

It's the quality of the welding and the structural integrity of the finished job that decides the legality or not of the finished motor.

Yes quite legal, infact you could space frame it like some of the defender boys do and hang the panels on that!
When you say spars do you mean the box sections? Those are one of the root causes of the inner wing/foot well sides going on early discos, as they're just range-rover ones (complete with ALL the wing mounting holes), later ones (after the rr classic went) are not holey so don't admit/trap water and mud anywhere near as badly... And yes they've been glassed to seal them after cutting out the rot I found. And very poor paint quality under the arches/no rubberised underseal to deflect stones.

The "cut and shut" I think, refers more to two cars being welded together to make one!!

With monocoque shells it is more difficult, but not impossible, but with Landrovers and the separate chassis its no problems.

I have mates who have removed sections to make 110s 100inch chassis, perfectly legal! HOWEVER pay attention to the article in last months LRO regarding the "Rangemaster"? they have just been proscecuted for not having vehicles SVA'd! just something to consider
