Just read this
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/rtrs/20071229/tuk-uk-britain-dog-fa6b408_2.html
AND on top of that a woman has been attacked in our street by 2 Rottys...Doesnt look good for us as we have a rotty too....The fact that the dogs that got out this morning were always being teased by the womans kids and were outside 24/7 ( as guard dogs).....so no doubt we will be getting either a visit- or a letter from the council!
My heart goes out to the kids parents tho', we NEVER leave our youngest alone with our dog ..No matter how docile she is !

Sad story. The trouble is not all dogs are the same even when their from the same breed.
The press will now jump on the band wagon and try scare mongering the public in to hateing dogs.
I have a little staffy and i get it all the time while talking her for walks.
People pick there kids up and panic where they see her, makes me sick as most of these people only now about what they have read in the [papers or seen on tv about these so called devil breeds.
We had a rotti live next door and it was softer than a king charles, just looked the part thats all.

The full story is tragic at so many levels - the 1-year-old was being supervised, along with other children, by a 16 year old whilst the adults were out.  A 7yo child carried the 1yo out into the yard to see the dog.  I can't imagine how bad it must be for all of them.

we have th daftest GSD i have ever come across, soft as anything with any one, goes beserk if anyone rings the bell or approaches the car and scares them to death but open the door and hes their best friend..

I still Always muzzle him when out and always get the ooh a muzzle he must bite.. No he doesnt!!!!! and never has tried but a dog is no different to a person... how many people on here have lost it and snapped at others at some point.. a dog is no different but their answer to snapping is to bite no matter how placid they could have a bad day which anybody is capable of..

There are very very very few bad dogs..... there are a huge number of bad owners... rottis can be lovely dogs in the right hands

unfortunately Rottis need a good firm owner and need to know their place from day 1, like any dog they are pack animals who need to know the pecking order and heirachy, although a quirk of many rottis is they are fiercely protective of their toys

the two victims in this case are the child and the dog.. the owners should be jailed for manslaughter.... when more comes out will we see its yet another 'Chavs own hard dog to look tough cos they are insecure wasters'...

The other victims here are yet again going to be the responsible owners with the well trained dogs.....

the owners in this story make me sick!!!!!

as a side note i read a report a couple of years back that say there are more attacks and bite by small yappy rats such as jack russels than large supoposedly vicious dogs... just a jack russel attack is an inconvenience rather than a serious incident......

Vet potential owners and force people to have insurance just as car drivers must.. it may discourage some of the worse owners if they need to spend more than a tenner a month to have there status symbol dragged around the estate on the end of its studded chest brace harness...

Cheers Steve

I left work about 2 hours before the kiddie got brought in, so had no involvement, but obviously my 'late-shift' collegues will have done.

I'mgiven to understand that 'we' had the local BBC, & ITV, outside broadcast units 'on the doorstep' later in the afternoon.

That's on top of the stabbing earlier in the week
