Thanks mate - I was worried that it might be something you'd written specially that wouldn't work elsewhere!

Yes, it probably would, thanks. At present it goes from a good pic of your vehicle into one with a white blob in the middle. If you are able to extend the pause between sets of flashes by a little bit then that would probably help too.

There, I did a little rework on it and it's not quite so "in your face", how's that?  :D

Fine now, thanks.

Nope! Much better photo than my last one

Not sure of the etiquette of these things - whose job is it to start the thread for today's expedition?

At the risk of being labeled a miserable old sod.

I find the new forum format coupled with the plethora of avatars and other gimmicky images attached to folks posts rather annoying.

In fact the whole forum appears to me to be too active and annoying to read. To the point that I find myself skipping many subjects because it is too much of a chore to read.

It's the sort of thing I would expect to find on some geeky forum, not a sensible motor related site.

One thing that this software can do is let you choose whether to see avatars and signitures.

If you click on "profile" and then "look and layout preferences" youi can customise how things are displayed.

If you go to your profile page, then take a look at "layout preferences" as wolfie has said you can disable the avatars and signatures of all the messages you look at...  Should make things a bit more readable for you.

Personally I like the Avatars as they help you to identify who's posting, but the sigs tend to annoy me if I'm honest (even though I'm as bad as anyone) still, the reason I have a dodgy sig is because I have to have them on for admin reasons, so I figured if you can't beat them join them  :)

Personally I think it would make for a very boring forum if all the avatars and signatures were turned off and you would also find people going elsewhere because of it. The fact that you can now turn them off if you don't want to see them is an advantage on the new setup and that's not something you'll find on many forums at the moment.

I know some things can annoy, hence me asking about mine at the start of this thread and altering the original avatar as it was a little loud. I'm not saying everyone should seek approval for a new avatar but in my case it thought it only fair as I did have reservations about it.

I hate long signatures that take up alot of space on the page (see this thread) but again these have been limited, mostly by the members themselves, but also by the new forum so it's not a problem these days.

At the end of the day, if I get too many negative posts about my avatar or signature then I'm happy to remove them and put up something else.

Just think yourself lucky I don't have some of my other Photoshop creations on here as a sig:  :D

Fair enough. Each to their own liking and certainly being able to turn some of the things off helps an old codger like me.

Although the forums on the PistonHeads web site don't have such gimmicks the volume of postings there is huge in comparison to many other forums with bells and whistles on or not. So I don't think people would go elsewhere provided the content of posts are both interesting and intelligent.

Having had a look at the Pistonheads forum, I stand by my original comment:

.....and people's posts being squashed to one side to fit a Flash advert half way down the page??  :?

At the end of the day, I've had more emails & PMs from people (on various forums) asking for me to make them banners and avatars than I've seen posts asking for them to be taken down.
But, as they say, you can't please all of the people all of the time..................  ;)
