You see if you had looked beyond green oval you could have had a better level of motor and still had 4x4.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO

just be careful have changed 5 or 6 turbo's, replaced Valves and skimmed heads as the turbo seals and bearings go and chucks bits of bearings through Valves and the head

keep a very careful eye out for any sort of excessive smoke out the exhaust as it could be the start of all your Nightmares

Damn not a mkII laguna, you'd have better off with a freelander.

Do youself a favor and sell it quick before it goes wrong!!!

Major electrical gremlins in those. a friend has one and it's does all sorts of weird stuff. like windscreen wipers that do what they please, spurious engine management faults, dashboard backlights that are on when they shouldn't be and vice versa.

On the upside they go like stink and handle really really well.

My Dad had one as a company car in '02 - went like stink, handling was amazing, but it kept having electronic gremlins ("Fuel injection system faulty, consult your Renault dealer" - we did, they didn't have a clue!). He also had to have a new cylinder head as an injector welded itself to the head.

One simple thing, if yours buzzes at a certain RPM check the air intake pipe. On ours, there was a small plastic clip or bolt missing. The problem was cured when I shoved a spare bolt through the hole and tightened it up.

I got a 2001 Terrano II with 56K on the clock, full leather, electric everything brill off road and very reliable for £5.5K

I've never been a big fan of Renault, they are ok cars and very forward thinking company but the spares are so expensive!

When I sold my v8 110 over summer I decided I was gonna go for a normal car. Passat and Mazda 6 were all seriously considered.

Then I realised how sad I was (am) and how if I did n't have an off-road capable vehicle I'd loose so much more than just the greenlaning aspect. The LR mags would go from a great read to a heap of frustration and I don't think there would have been anypoint frequenting this site.

Anyway, you can see what I ended up with in my avatar so I'm still on here and enjoying the mags and the dreams.

Older Saabs seem to be a safe bet - I see plenty of them around here, still going strong. There seems to be some debate over whether the post-GM takeover ones will manage that though. Our 9-3 has been fine mind you - two new windscreen wiper motors excepted. 150bhp from a diesel easily makes up for that!

Passats any day of the week...apart from mud days  ;)...average 54mpg, very comfy, loads of room & a pleasure to drive.  Mine is a 1999 1.9Tdi (Chipped to 154Bhp) Sport.
The missus has a 1994 Saab 900SE 175Bhp thats also a nice car, not nearly as comfy as the Passat though.

I wouldn't part with my readies for a French car...just personal preference
Did everyone see that?  Because I will NOT be doing it again!

actually a top notch car for the money. TD or HDi? (not worth a lite if its petrol!)

if its TD and the engine is good then it will be great. once things need attention on the engine then the whole engine tends to be on the way out. the big end bearings went on me dads 406 estate whilst i was driving it. got another now. and remember, you can fit more stuff in a 406 estate than any normal land rover!
