Thats interesting but the question I have to ask is....

Why is a Yorkshire newspaper covering this story when the guy lives in Devon? :?

Isn't there anything newsworthy happening in Yorkshire? :-.

Not too sure, it was in the 'Countrywide' section of the news coverage. I guess one of the sub-editors just thought it was a nice story

It's actually a very nice book, despite it's slightly 'jokey' cover. They are issuing a Lancaster one soon too.

May be due to having a "blueprint" replica at Masham traction engine rally ( in Yorkshire) last year.

And I bet it comes with American instructions with American/Hollywood history notes telling you all about how it was the Americans who designed it, and that it was no good until American pilots flew it (granted there were some very high scoring American pilots in the Battle of Britain) and that they used it very well at Pearl Harbour before they 'saved our butts in 'dubya dubya one one'. :roll:

Yep, true LSP, but they had serious hearing problems as we rang the bell in 1939 but they did not hear it till 1941, but still they won the war didn't they! :roll:

Anyhow, its made of wood :shock: But it looks the biz I suppose.

They have got a fully restored Spitfire in the Airplane museum on Malta. Very nice it is

I've got a genuine WWII manual on Merlin engines and additional section on Spitfires.
My father-on-law was a RAF mechanic during WWII and gave me his training & workshop  manuals etc.

BTW the biggest RAF "warehouse" is RAF Stafford.
Each of hangers have 26 miles of shelving and nobody had ever done a full inventory.
A retired officer set up a compnay and undertook that as a private contractor.
He found mountains of new WWII parts including Spitfire items.
The biggest suppler of genune WWII Spitfire parts in the world, Supermarine Aero Engineering Ltd,  is near me and started with this treasure trove of RAF surplus parts that nobody knew existed.
The local (Hanley) museum has a Spitfire as Mitchell was born here and it's undergoing restoration in full view of the public.

Not to flying condition therfore isn't a comprehensive as the one in the article but it's amazing what is still available.
