Low emission zone in London

I was reading a magazine last night that mentioned this new law coming into effect from Feb this year for lorries then a few more dates later cars and vans will be enforced.

So who is going to be effected? It will mean I can't go and visit my Uncle in Penge any more thats for sure.

But what is the crack about people on veg oil? As far as I am aware veg oil gives out zero emmisions. Would I have to pay £200 to drive into this new zone if I was on veg oil?

Another thing is, say I wanted to go to one of the 2 caravan club sites within this zone and stayed a week? I would have to pay the site fees and if I went out on day trips every day I would have to pay £1300. Thats alot of money for a holiday in the UK before you even take in the price of the site, atractions etc etc.

£200 seems very steep for each day. the goverment know how to look after us don't they  :twisted: :twisted:

think that weighbridge needs calibrating kerb weights for landies below No disco's but I would have thought somewhere close to a 110 would be about right.

I did check my Reg number using their database a while ago - mine wasn't affected by the LEZ. Not that I'm planning to go into London anyway - overpriced and overcrowded, I'd far rather be out laning!

My 90 will be effected from 2010 (200Tdi on veg oil) Karens 110 camper conversion will not as its a V8. I have no intention of going inside the M25 but guess which one we will be using if we have to.

There is no way a discovery will come in around 1300KG unless its been seriously chopped!

Probably a scrapyard weighbridge if it came in at 1300kg. notorious for under weighing on the way in and not on the way out. you'd be surprised how much free scrap it earns them.

Sorry, it was a typo I didn't spot. I meant 2300kg. Same weight as a 9 seater crew cab transit when empty and full of fuel.  :roll:

the weigh bridge I used was the one at work owned by the council.

All I have in my disco is an ammo box with ropes, shackles etc in and another box with socket set, tow bar, spanners, tool bag etc. That is a tad heavy. I also have rock / tree sliders, tow bar, steering guard bolted on so that adds on extra weight.

If its a car like a disco is, it shouldn't matter what weight it is; it wont be affected by the LEZ.  It is only for comercal diesel vehicles at the moment.  That will surely change to include cars and petrol's when they have tested it on the current vehicles and it works alright.

The way it affects me (which isn't much as I don't live down there) is I won't be able to use the Syncro to visit mates from 2010 as being a van/camper it won't comply (handy for any camper van owners planning to visit the Olympics/London in general or most likely, by Londoners trying to LEAVE London rather than drive round it.  Well done Ken.

My revenge will be my alternative...As I won't be able to use the van I'll have to use the landy (if I ever bother to go to London).  Might be exempt anyway as its a proper Station Wagon therefore a car? but as its pre 73 and therefore "historic", its exempt from the LEZ.  Can't wait to floor that engine through London as I'm sure it'll spit out worse stuff (2.25D) than the more efficient 1.6TD in the back of the banned van!

If you don't live in London and want an old diesel commercial.  The London area will be a good place to buy them cheep soon!  Get your discount 7ton truck now! Cheep defender Tdi's to follow in a couple of years.

Thank God I live "oop north" and have no intention of ever driving in the smoke ... maybe Ken is trying not to drive in the smoke too ? Pity he doesn't have to drive himself, then he might realise what a pratt he is !

The impression I got was that (initially at least), it's only applicable to commercial vehicles, ie HGVs, coaches, minibuses, vans, and yes, car-derived vans. "Commercial" bodied vehicles (ie anything that doesn't have windows in the back) will fall into it. And therefore if I decide to take my Disco into London, I'll be charged £100 per day for the "privilege", regardless of the fact it isn't used commercially.

I don't however have any desire to take it into London, round Manchester is bad enough!

EDIT: Just checked my reg on the website, and I'm exempt until 04/10/2010, then I would have to pay the charge.

I'm pretty sure it's commercial vehicles - so a disco commercial or H/T 90s and 110s will be clobbered. It means if I get a HT 90 in the summer, eventually I will be charge £100 to drive from my girlfriends house to my parents house, all becuase of a narrow corridor of LEZ near Chessington...

Surely not just a money spinning idea...
