Car Insurance...... A forum regular..
« on: January 08, 2008, 08:31:26 »
We often get on here and many other forums a 'who is the cheapest for insurance', well I thought Id have a look at this

http://comparethemarket.com

As they seem to be advertising on the TV a lot lately and what a surprise....

my company who Ive always been pleased with are beaten by £100 (down to £147 fully comp incl mods for the defender)

and Caz's would be less than half price £140 compared to last years £290+

Im sure plenty of you have already used this service but if not get on there... I certainly will be as soon as renewals are due in April...

Cheers Steve

I have done this before, and find that when you go to place the insurance with them they always come up with a higher price, seems they give you silly prices just to get your interest.

Yep I got the contact broker on some when i added all my mods but the wifes standard vitara was a simple buy now option which when i looked at was just that. although quite a few brokers had no need to discuss normal mods such as alloy wheels or flared wheelarches the system accepted it...

I had my renewal through at Xmas for my car (VW Passat) insured through Adrian Flux.
I went too www.gocompare.com to check renewal price was favourable.
I was presented with a price from Kwik Fit Insurance £200 cheaper than the renewal sent through by Flux.
Adrian Flux do a price beat guarantee & if you mention you are a member of Mud Club then you will receive a 5-10% discount too  :afro:
I contacted Flux & they beat the Kwik Fit quote by another £25 so all in all I have saved over £225 in about 30mins.
They are also really good on modified vehicles.
NFU are also very good & insure my Landy's at very competitive rates.  :afro:
Did everyone see that?  Because I will NOT be doing it again!

Need to renew mine this month.

First one wanted nearly extra £500

Second would not insure me.

Im 31 no accidents or claims with a 90 2" lift cage and265 tyres :?

Think I will stick with flux even if they have put the price up from last year

Tried to get quotes for my vehicle on that site, and it came back with 4 quotes, all of which were higher than my current policy with Sureterm. One of the insurers who quoted were Highways, who are the underwriters on my current policy. However, when clicking through to any of the quotes, they all say "We are unable to quote for this risk online", which makes me suspect that the provided quotes are just there to try to pull you in.

NFU for me, young ish driver, they offered me an introductory 5 year no claims discount, I've used them and claimed off them a few times for horses and personal injury, very good to deal with and they don't try to get out of paying.

A very low premium may be great but if they squirm out of paying up when something happens, where's the value for money gone then?

In the past 10years I have had 2 largish claims with the NFU (£8K & £3800).  Both times they sent the loss adjuster round & within a week a cheque has been on the doorstep.
Can't fault NFU down here  :afro:

To an insurer those claims are tiny and not worth worrying about, pray you never have a large claim, the tune changes

I find that if you try to list the mods and apply online you can run into a lot of probs, and frustration when filling out the forms

Its better to phone the firm I think, at least you stand a better chance of explaining to a person what you have, my stretch disco really screws their brain up, until I explain the full situiation on why it is as it is

One of the best ones was when I told them, their reply was oh its not a saloon then its an estate, then trying to explain that they really only made the disco on one size

Got my renewal notice yesterday for nerly £600  from the Post Office who use Norwich Union.

Thinks No Thanks and a quick search on Moneysupermarket brings back a price with Swiftcover at just under £300 plus £30 back in 3 months. Clicked on go to their website expecting the price to go up but no - exactly the same plus all my details had been copied accross from money supermarket so I didn't have to re input my details again.

Have to say I've never renewed with the same insurer for as long as I can remember - always get new quotes.
