Muck my 1988 Range Rover 3.5V8 Efi has averaged 14 MPG since I bought him 5 years ago. That equates to an average p/mile of 27.5p and that has increased by about 10p in 5 years!!! But I only use at weekends and lots of short runs in between some longer trips to pay and play days and shows. Best MPG on a long run was 21 MPG worst was 6MPG  . I just fitted a new stainless exhaust and K&H filter so i will be interested to see if they have any effect.

Brass (after all where there is Muck there is Brass!!) my Discovery 3 TDV6 averages 30MPG but on a good run I am getting 34MPG. Its a company car so they pay the fuel I pay the tax!!

Its not what it cost its the fun you have behind the wheel

110 V8: around 10-12mpg
110 TDi: around 30mpg
Disco V8: around 20mpg on petrol and 35mpg on gas

OUUUCH. My 110 V8 did more than that!!! think of the beastly V8 landy you could be running for the same price as your maverdick. obviously your garage bills will go through the roof but think of the noise!

Why would his garage bills be higher?  We've had our 110 V8 for nearly three years now and the only thing I have had to replace (apart from normal service items) was the alternator.  Our 110 V8 is the cheapest (apart from the fuel costs) motor to run I've ever owned

Right then. I have done a long journey / running to and from work on veg oil and this is my result.

I did 367 miles and the guage needle was still above quarter of a tank. I put in 54litres of veg oil (this is all I had) and the needle still wasn't up to the usual full mark, (just below ful mark. usual needle goes slightly above full mark) so I guess I could have got another 10litres in.

So going on 65litres and 367miles (using the groovey link someone posted) that makes it 25mpg.

Since refil I did 220 miles today and needle is down to half way and most of that was motorway miles. So this tank may not be as good mpg.

Just joking. infact all i ever did to my 110 was the rear shoes. never let me down. only cost me a grand and it went straight through the MOT. 180k on the clock as well.

I used to get 18-21 before the veg oil conversion but then it stayed in the low 20's after I changed the air filter. My air filter was incredibly bad and suffercating the engine.

Looks like the 200Tdi has a lot going for it (on the fuel side at least!).  I am quite impressed with the results.

The best mpg I have had (and this is going off the trip computer thingy) was 72 mpg in a Skoda Octavia 1.9 Saloon.  It was on a 42 mile trip including A roads, duel carriage way, motorway, then the twisty + hilly mile and a half at the end of the motorway!  I nursed it for the whole of the journey just to see what I could get out of it (keeping to 55 mph, anticipating traffic lights and keeping the foot on the clutch if I did not need power etc.) but I was still impressed as it was a decent size motor.

On my 70 mile trips to work (in the morning including the M62 past Huddersfield/Leeds at 7 to 7.30 ish in the morning) it would get between 45 - 50 mpg.

I am still impressed with the 72 mpg though (and that included having three tool boxes in the boot!).

Thanks for all your posts.

Regards

Mick
