Well I was wondering When :(

Be warned, there are now 2 pairs of SPECs speed cameras on the M27, one pair eastbound, one westbound between J11 and J12. Not operational as yet but I have no doubt they will be soon.

These are AVERAGE speed so if you cruise at 70, overtake a little above 70, then settle back down, they'll have you :(

I might be shunned here for saying this, but I have no problem with speed cameras.  In the Disco, I set the cruise to 69 on the motorway and leave it at that (and I have 700 mile trip down south every other weekend and have never had a problem with sitting at that speed all the way there and back).  The two Defenders sit at 60 anyway.

70 is the limit anyway..........

very difficult to remember when i come to england. living on the Isle of man i come over and do want i do at home put my foot down till i come to a corner, but on a motorway not may corners! hahaha :S

SPECS doesnt take into account you breifly exceeding the 70 limit to say, overtake a dangerous driver or being pushed out of the way by a rep in their BMW.

APNR being??? AP Numberplate recognition??

Remember though if you go to 75 to overtake for 5mins then just do 65 for 5 mins to average it out, hence the average speed cameras. I prefer these type to the ones at sides of roads and much better than the ones with a little man hiding behind a corner in his van.

Nothing wrong with that, if you are insured, taxed and MOTed (as I'm sure everyone on here is).  They are a good idea, I hope they catch those who are illegal........

That's a good point, if they face the front of your car then they won't catch bikes anyway.

Besides, I though it was illegal for the Gov't to use average speed cameras because it infringes our civil liberties.

Every day I think that leaving this country is a better idea.

Forward facing and they have no operational signature that detectors can pick up. The only thing they have depeding on time of day is bnloody great IR illuminators. The system grabs your number plate, then times how long it takes for the next camera to see you.

Bit of a giggle that they've put them at one of the worst congestion spots to so that everything will slow down even more. People seem to react to seeing these damn things by doing about 20mph under the limit. I serioulsy suspect that sectioon is about to get a 60 limit too, possibly the only way placing them there will make sense, and with major roadworks due there in the next few weeks for 18 months...

Its ANPR sorry, brain isnt working too well today.

Ah, the fact that there's roadworks due is the key to that then, we've had them on the M1 at J31 for a year and that's been a 50 limit.

The Gov't argued that in area when the speed limit varied it was "impossible" to use fixed cameras, like on the M42 and M25, but they used that loophole to get them onto motorways with roadworks too.

If you think back to when ANPR cameras were introduced (we have loads round here, all on blue poles) there was a challenge in the European courts because monitoring which way you are travelling and at what time is an infringement of our personal freedom and right to privacy.

the judgement was upheld in the motorists favour, that's why we have loads of the blue cameras but they aren't (yet) speed traps.  Otherwise every main road on the country will be average speed detected.

So if say the motorway was empty at night and everyone did, for example 100mph. Would it still pop up saying that it is 30miles to junction x and takes 20minutes?

The 70 limit on motorways is a joke these days. you have to be doing 85/90 in an evening to keep up with most cars, the thing is that the 70 limit was set for stuff like E type jags with drum brakes, cross ply tyres etc etc. now we have ABS ESP TC yada yada most modern cars are well up to 100mph cruising, dosent make it safe as such, but is a crash at 80mph much worse than one at 70mph?

I do wonder if there's an element of "Set the limit at 70, then they'll drive at 80" involved.

Mind you, there seems to be no logic to it. I cruise at bang on 70 on motorways/dual carriageways. Some days, I'm flying up the middle lane and cursing those people who occupy it at 55. Other days, I'm hiding in the left hand lane from everything else coming past at 80+!

Trafficmaster does keep a record, thats how they caught a hitman who travelled up from London to Scotland, killed, and drove back a few years back, since then the green poles have started appearing, which is the Highways lots version so I'm told, and also interface with the PNC/DVLA database's...

reading local news these cameras will be staying for the next 10 months while the work starts to widen the motorway between J11 and J12

Specs on the M27 ?  I didn't even know it had problems with its eyesight !

Although, it might explain why so many people can't see that bridge at junction 7  :doh:
