Liquidation
« on: January 14, 2008, 11:27:11 »
Just been stung for £250 with a company that has now gone into liquidation. Paid for the goods with my debit card back in October.
Does anyone have any idea what my next move might be ?
Can I claim the money back from the bank ? (long shot I know)
Is there some sort of ombubsman type place I can go to voice my displeasure ?
Or am I stuffed ?

Speak to your bank I think you should be covered.

I'm not sure but I don't think you have as much protection using a debit card as you do a credit card - but good luck anyway

If its a Visa debit card then you have the same protections almost that they give their credit card holders.  Anything else and its hit and miss wether you will get anywhere.

If it is a Visa debit card then go speak to your bank in branch.  Tell them you wish to do a chargeback due to the company going into liquidation.  They will try and fob you off saying you arent protected because its a debit card, but say you have spoken to Visa directly who have informed you otherwise.  If you still dont get anywhere with the till monkeys then ask to speak to the manager and explain it all to them.

It's guaranteed credit, you are entitled to the goods you piad for or your money back.  When buying something from a closing down sale you really MUST use a credit card.

Don't be fobbed off by the bank or card issuer, Master Card are a little better than Visa but in either case the law protects you.  Contact the claims department ASAP.

Did you sign anything or use you PIN number? if you ordered by 'phone it's even easier to get out of paying ;) as the reciept should say "customer not present".
