Well well well, apparently if you have an early blu-ray player you are unable to upgrade the software/firmware to accept new blu ray movie features, also may cause play back problems on newer movies too. Playstation 3 owners have nothing to worry about as they can download any updates required and they have the hardware already installed to accept the updates .
Wonder if those who payed a fortune for a blu ray player will get any compensation???? "I doubt it" :roll:

i wonder whether this applies to ps3's as they are blu-ray boxes too

I got an early Samsung BDP1000 Bluray player in May last year (cost me £280 when Tesco online were still selling them at £1000!). I read somewhere recently that newest Bluray films like Pirates of the Caribean III won't play- but I never bought any new releases lately so I can't confirm it. These players are firmware upgradeable (via the disk drive) but again I've not tried this either. Nor am I sure if the firmware upgrade will allow the version of the Blu-ray format to be played or just fixes other bugs? To be honest 1080p/1080i upscaled DVD looks nearly as good as 1080P Blu-ray by the time you move a few feet away from the screen anyway.

I also doubt there will be any compensation- it's the risk you take buying into this technology too early while they are still defining the format......

Cool, I got a PS3.

Anyone wanting one I suggest that post-christmas you checkout the second hand places and E-Bay, lots are being sold to pay for the festivities
