oil level?

ive got a 1987 2.5 td and the oil level on my dipstick keeps reading normal even thogh the oil light was coming on and i topped it up a fair bit, the tube the dip stick sits in seems loose, not much but a little could this be the problem?

I've had a dipstick tube drop intot he engine on a V8 before, otherwise youhave an oil pump problem of some description.

I had my 200tdi for a month and an oil hose came loose. Unfortunately the oil light didn't come on...  :|
A quick £2k later...  :shock: Needless to say, the sound of the engine grinding to a stop was not the most pleasant thing I have ever heard.

I watched an old video once of the army running a 2.5n/a with no oil until it seized, they then let it cool, topped it up with oil, and it ran fine!!! It was a reliability test!!
