Hello people Driving my SJ today I was getting over taken by loads of cars I was doing about 55.
How fast does your SJ go I would like it do go a little faster. I have SPOA and 16" wheels witch does'nt really help but could you let me know how fast yours goes and what mods you have got.
I have a Webber carb at the minute but am changing it shortly to a SU do you think this will speed it up at all how about fitted a 410 t-box would that help as well.

not sure how fast mine is
but you could fit a k&n filter that could help and the 410 drinks more fuel than a 413/sammy (not sure wich 1 you got ) so its possible to fit a 410 carb to a 413 sammy with a adaptor and will give you more power

Well mines a 413 with rock lobster box, shackle lifted (both fixed end and loose shackle ends to give equal lift of approx 2 inches). 285 x 75 x 15 tyres. Not much else done really, goes around 60mph (a friend of mine had it to 70!!!! ) I tend to drive it at 50 - 55 mph as it seems more stable on road and you get there in the end anyway. Its done almost all the lanes between the Lakes (including Walna Scar Rd before it was down graded) and South Wales over the last 5 years iv'e had it. Hardly ever been stuck and hardly ever needed to be towed out of anywhere. I love it, Ive had a Diahatsu, a Jeep Cherokee, and various Landrovers over the years, Its a cracker!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers

Did you drive to Wales and elsewhere at 50 - 55 how many miles did you drive in a day. My mate with his a series 1 drove to the south of france and he said he could only do about 150 miles a day due to it being uncomfortable doing any further.

I found more or less standard vit got uncomfy about the 200 mile mark.
As for cruise speed, shes not far of factory standard. 60 is a comfortable cruise, 70 is the higest speed I'm comfortable with. 80+ it sounds like its about to come apart. You can almost hear a scottish voice comming out the dash:
'She cannae take anymore cap'ain'

If its a 413, put the 410 transfer case in and it will work well with 205-16 or 750-16 tyres, sammy has slightly higher diff ratios than 413 so best for gearing is the 413 model, the 410 trasfer from d reg onwards should go straight in but early ones have different splines and shaft sizes late ones best as they drop straight in.
