Time for some new MT's

Hi

I currently am running BF Goodrich MT 235/85/R16 (2" body lift and full wheel arch chop) and am looking around at alternatives before I take the plunge and just get more BF Goodrich's.

I noticed Yokohama now do a Geolander Mud Terrain in 235/85/R16 and was wondering if anybody on here has them and if so how they have found them.

Do they compare favourably in the mud to BFG's?

I am mostly interested in how they wear as I have had Colways and Macho in the past and they both wore out really quickly. The BFG's seem to last really well.

I do do quite a lot of motorway mileage traveling to and from green road trips.

bfg muds are the best by far as a allrounder, like me, mine are all on the tarmac, the bfg is an excellent mud tyre, but handles reasonably well on the road, plus they last much longer than most of the others.
im not saying its the best, as for mud there is better and for the road there is better, but i think for a general multi purpose it is at the moment unbeatable.

I've been really impressed with my Hankook Dynamic MTs, cheapo version of the BFG.  Last time I did a play day the site owner/marshall said "don't do this bit unless you have a winch or go in with a winch equipped vehicle", and I drove the whole thing and never got stuck...

I rate the Discoverer STT's much higher than the BFG MTs. I have seen them in action against BFG and they had so much better traction.

Steve, how long have you had your Cooper's mate? What are they like on road and if you've had them a while,how are they wearing?

they are part of avon tyres and i know they are still making tyres at melksham.

i dont think you can go wrong with the bfg 's but what about the kumo ventures they look a good tread pattern and dont look to agressive for on road,  chers guys

I have had them since last June. They are fine on the road, you get a bit of hum from them but I don't find it too bad. I've only done about 4,000 miles on them so a bit earlier to tell about the wear, although there are no signs of any where yet

Not sure where you are but if it helps I got them from Frogs Island 4x4 in Milton, Oxfordshire.  About £90 each IIRC

I'm in the progress of lifting my Disco, and once its done I'll be getting a set of 235/85 R16 Cooper STT's.  Prices vary widely, so shop around.  John Craddock and Formula 4 are some of the best prices at the moment (just over £90 each), and always  a fair few quid cheaper than BFG's.  Heard nothing but good reviews from people who use them, both on and off-road.  Also keep your eye on www.tyrespec.co.uk for prices, sometimes have good deals.

I currently run a standard size set of Cooper ST's (bit more than AT's but not quite MT's), done well over 20,000 miles and looking at the wear on them they'll do 40 if not 50k probably.  Brilliant tyres, well chuffed with them (and only £69 each fitted at Billing 18 months ago!).

Hi all, was looking for some advice on rim width?
Currently have 235's on a 7" rim = standard set up

I am thinking of fitting a wider tyre either a 255 or 265 (MT), if so what would be the correct width of rim to use. 7" 8" or 10"

I too was looking at 255/85/16 and somewhere on here ( ithink) is a link to a site saying what width rims for certain tyres. If i remember correctly you can fit 255 on 7" width rims,though you can go wider if you want.
