Seatbelt - Will this be a MOT Failure ??
« on: January 20, 2008, 21:22:02 »
I have got the dreaded MOT this week, I am paranoid due to me failing 3 test last year. The examiner found more items every time I went back. !, so plenty of welding was done.

This year alot has been done to my 90 and I am hopeful, apart from the Seatbelt, have a look at this picture and let me know what you think !!

If anyone in Rushden, Wellingborough has a spare Drivers side seatbelt for a 1985 90 I could be interested

Just replace it with a new one. It's your life at stake.... the MOT pass is not really what you should be worried about. An aftermarket belt like Securon is only about £30.

Agree 100%.

I never fail to be amazed when people are surprised & thankful that their LR has passed the MOT or they just want to know if something will make it pass or fail.
As long as the vehicle is looked after and jobs are completed when they become apparent surely it shouldn't surprise anyone when their pride & joy passes the annual inspection? As for safety related items such as the belt, the question of replacement shouldn't arise as it is clearly damaged and needs replacement. What price a life?

After that little rant some you can be assured that the previous post was spot on. A Securon 'universal' belt is available from practically all motor-factors, will fit straight in and cost around the £30 mark. Each model fits a whole range of vehicles so just make sure you pick up the correct one.
In future just be careful of getting the belt trapped in the door-catch, the use of a cable-tie is a very common cure to this problem.
ONE LIFE, GET IT!

Cheers for the comments, I will be purchasing a new belt asap and fitting it before the MOT. I am sure that the rest of the other jobs are now complete, all welding has been done, bushes checked, Wheel bearing replaced, top swivel pins have been checked for play.

Well the "old" girl passed her MOT, the inspector did check the belts !!, he mentioned afterwards that if was'nt damaged enough to even put a comment on the advisory notes page !!

So a clean sheet !!

Thanks for all your comments, need some mud now to play in
