I'm not surprised they got stuck- beach mud is notoriously bad for vehicles, you can easily loose a tractor in that stuff!

We used to pull a lot of cars off the beach at Southport. Once needed a big tractor to rescue a stuck 90. We nearly got the tractor stuck as well, that would have taken some explaining to the boss.
