Seeing as pdutton has decided to try and break your minds, here's another contribution.

Are squares A and B the same colour?

Save the picture as a .bmp open it with paint then use the ink dropper tool. You'll see they are both the same colour. It's just an illusional thing.
Cheers, Karl..

Right...  Square A and Square B *are* the same colour.

If you cover the screen with your hands so you can only see a very narrow vertical slit, you can see this is the case, although it does mess with your head somewhat.  It also results in greasy fingermarks on your screen.

Weird, isn't it?

If grey is a colour and A & B are shades of grey on the same 2 dimensional image taken in isolation then yes they are the same colour. :-s

However, if the whole image is taken as a 3 dimensional image with the representation of light casting a shadow past the vertical solid cylindrical object then the representational notional colours are still grey, but one "B" light grey in shadow and the other "A" dark grey fully illiminated.

So if A is grey & B is grey irrespective of shading or shadow effects then they are both grey & hence the same colour. #-o
