Remove head with injectors and glow plugs still in?

Last time I took the cylinder head off my 300Tdi I removed the injectors and the glow plugs first as the Haynes manual suggests. Now I need to do it again but I'm wondering if I can remove the head without taking the plugs and injectors out. Surely all I need to do is remove the wires from the plugs and the connection to the fuel spill-thingy rail. :P

Hmm,
I'm not sure I would..
They are screwed in tight and consequently will be stressing the head to a point. Also, do they protrude below the face of the head? Wouldn't want to knacker them!
Summit to think about.... :-k

you can leave them in its not a problem just dont put the head down on the face as you will damage the injectors, if your in any doubt that you cant lift the head cleanly off then its safer to remove them

when doing the removal part just take care you can leave them in but once lifted place on a rolled up towel or the likes to protect the parts that stick out

Unless you are having the head skimmed, which might be adviseable.
besides, I would prefer to know that they aren't seized in permenantly. For the price of some copper washers take the out.

If you are ordering the gasket set for the top of the engine, then that includes the copper washers for the injectors and the blead off pipe from them. like range rover blues says it is advisable to get it skimmed, cost me about £50, but that is on the isle of man so could be cheeper accross there.

Did it without removing them. Saved loads of time. Thanks for the rolled up towel tip, very clever. Never seen a head gasket like the new one from the main dealer though. It was in several layers of metal. Worked a treat though. Overheating problem cured for the time being. :P
