A Warning for all you Bikers...

I stopped a group of boy racers at work the other day, to be fair they were a nice bunch. One of them was telling me about something they were all talking about, some kids had put diesel down on a roundabout at night so they could drift their cars, apparently there is something on Youtube about it.

I guess this could be a urban rumour, but it worried me the thought is there in their heads, while this bunch are sensible enough not to do it I know from experience there are idiots who will do it.

Fri night I found a renault clio backwards on its side in a hedge, as we were sorting it out a supra and then a motorbike came of fthe road withing a few meters of where this lad lost it. Then the Police freelander had to nudge the ambulance to get it rolling, there was something slippery all over the road. I wonder if its the same thing.

I would like to say that I am shocked to think that someone could be that stupid as to do such a thing, but unfortunately I'm not that surprised at all.

A little diesel goes a long way too.  It'll be the next craze if something isn't done to stop it, proabably ban diesel, you now what the Gov't is like.

This is a real eye opener to me - I didn't realise diesel is that slippery! The puzzling part is that real drift racers don't mess around with putting stuff on the track, so why on earth these clowns are doing it I can't imagine. Soapy water is just as effective (used to be used to help slide trailers around in smaller car ferries) and washes off...

Mud is probably more of a problem here - I regularly see sizable lumps on the roads.

Use water with bleach in it at the strip to get the tyres spinning. no where near as effective as diesel though, a road covered in diesel can be awkward ro run on let alone drive!

A lad I used to know round here put his car on it's roof because of diesel on the road. Not long after the D3 came out one of 'em sprung a leak on the A44. He came round a bend a bit too quickly and found himself upside down, needing a new car.

Hmmm, the terms 'real racer' and 'drift' used in the same sentance.  Drifting is not a 'real' racing discipline, it's some stupid affectation probably dreamed up by tyre manufacturers.  But the sort of more money than sense noddies posting videos of their exploits probably have more power under their hoods than the local chav brigade, hence the need for some lubricant.

Well, ok, I meant as in the ones who do it on a proper track rather than Halfords car park!  :lol:

And I really wouldn't fancy having to remove the rubber from the track afterwards so it can be used for proper racing...Although it would probably give some interesting lap times if left.

"Real drifters" not needing to oil the track?  That's an easy one to solve!  They use very powerful rear wheel drive cars, with various mods to help it slide.  Doesn't work quite the same in a front wheel drive 1.1 Saxo, with spoiler.  The people who try don't seem to notice this mild technical deficiency though, or maybe they do a bit, at even more expense to everyone else.

We have a similar problem with sheep. When the gritters go out, the sheep all come down and stand on the road to lick the salt off. Ice I can deal with, several kilos of wool less so!  :lol:

Diesel spillage is a thing that's been around for ages really, ask any one who fills up in a haulage yard before h & s get in there around bunkered fuel

One of the most common causes is when a lot of truck didn't have lock caps on the tanks, and either they forget to put the cap on after refuelling, or someone removes the cap to take some fuel out

Once a wagon goes round the corner it can dump a couple of gallons+ easily especially on a roundabout, not very nice of a car is along side it at the same time :twisted:

Clean up is something that has to be done by professionals, some local councils have the capability to deal with minor spills, but I believe the Fire Brigade deal with quite a few nowadays

But as what caused this type of skating rink, the more its talked about the worse it could become, a lot of these people have no regard for others anyway, and I can see them doing this sort of thing just for kicks

A couple of months ago I was on a large roundabout near me, I saw some 10 year olds hovering round on the edge of the roundabout, on a dual carriage way, under some overhanging trees, they were waiting for vehicles to pull off from the lights and then throwing stones at the windows, their favourite target was buses, and got one while I was waiting at the lights, could not pull over anywhere at the time but managed to alert a local plod further up the road to what was happening, the little burggers were disappearing over a bank in the trees and hiding


Just an afterthought, cars on diesel slides are bad, add rain and imagine a 40 footer's trailer fully loaded catching the slippery bit, gets a little bit more than slipping into a ditch, one 30+ tonnes lump with no steering going sideways and no braking capability :shock:

it has been all over the news here in lincoln about it as it is becoming that much of a trend to try drifting and as you say they have there play then disappear not thinking about all the diesel they are leaving on the road for some poor drive just to be a little to quick

the boy racers round here have been doing it for ages

every Wednesday night they do it,the thing that really annoys me is a few miles down the road there is a cafe where on the same night there is a bike meet,no one mucks around,just park up,catch up with people and leave and there are police every where :x

yet the boy racers putting diesel down on the round about and mucking around,drifting they seem to do nothing about unless a biker goes down there with out knowing,comes off and then they turn up even tho loads of people tell them whats going on [-X [-X

I use to pitch up at a local bike meet and got a very frosty reception.... All I wanted to do was get a close look at a KTM650, now I turn up and we all chat as they know I'm getting into bikes. One day I'll be brave enough to turn up on my 125 :oops:

If i catch the little s**ts putting diesel on the road i will take them to a field in the middle of knowhere and tie them naked to a gate post at let the local wildlife nibble at the privates.
Most bikers aways look ahead at any busy roundabout to see if theres diesel on it ,I was told to look when i did my das course.And because of the train in the modern bike test you do actually remember to look for it.
What are the youth of today thinking,yer it might be funny but it could be one of there family that hits that diesel patch and end up dead in a ditch.

to much of there time is wasted trying to stop green laning and not enough time spent trying to stop ideots like these damaging road and putting people at risk, cheers
