I can't do MOT's, and I think they cost £50+ now.

What would the £60 cover in bits then? i.e. what's needed to do a full service on a 2004 TD5 auto.

Filter and oil changes sound like the easy bit, but no mention of brakes which are probably easier to change than they look but it's an area I've never had nerve to tackle. I wonder if the Heynes manual tells you what to do?

BK - It's an independant that it's going to next week, (not a landy specialist) he's done my other vehicles for dome year now and find him pretty reliable.

brakes are a piece of cake, discs on rear and front...one hour on each axle taking it steady with basic tools, the gearbox and diff oil changes can be a bit meesy though if you dont quite know what to do,but im on a budget so i had to learn the hard way,i cant afford garage prices, serious tho a blind monkey can change landy brake pads its easy :D

Local independant.  Chances are he'll take more trouble than the stealer because he wants you to come back.  He'll fit decent parts because it's not worth his reputation to skimp and he won't fit stuff you don't need for the same reason.

If you can find one who is recomended then you're laughing.

Which is where my local chap is quoting, plus I can drop the car off and walk home from there as well. I had a look down the haynes manual last night and there are plenty of checks included where I wouldn't know what I was doing so it would probably take ll weekend and then be left wondering if I'd missed something important. Then of course I still have to get it MOT'd which of course I can't do.

Collected the Disco from the independant garage tonight - just under £168 for the service and MOT. Gadzooks - That's £400 saving on the main dealer book price, I'm feeling better.
