Which Car Should We Buy?
« on: January 29, 2005, 23:43:49 »
What with one thing & another, we've been considering changing the Fabia for another car, but something a bit 'sportier' this time.
We've been to the main-dealer, where we bought it from this morning, & had a good look at (& test-drive) in the Fabia vRS
What a car!!!, it makes you grow horns
More torque than a Porch Boxster, & gives the Mini-Cooper a 'Whuppin'

Then in the afternoon SWMBO & father-in-law went to look at
MG TF (liked, but child-seat unfriendly)
Toyota Celica (still think it's 'Avant-Gard' styling, but it's too dear!)
Hyundai Coupe (very nice for the price, but it'd have to be the 1.6 )

Any suggestions/views on these cars (or alternaive suggestions?)

Oh, & we like the new version of the Focus.
My suggestion of a Vauxhall Monaro was dismissed, much to my disgust

The Discovery situation is still 'ongoing', she said this morning; "Why don't you get a 90 , or a 110 then.??"

If its not going to be a CSW then have a look at an Octavia RS, extremely good by all accounts. I can recommend the Ford Focus in 2litre form especially being an estate (not the new version though, only the mark 1) - so the new version should be an improvement. At the end of the day though it is only a Dagenham Dustbin, but cheap on parts and insurance, and it goes like excrement off an implement :D
If I had the choice it would be a 90CSW

The sensible choice in this class is eithr Skoda or Seat.

VW build quality - Without the price.

Stick with instinct. Go for the vRS and when people give you a quizzical look when they see the badge just smile (very) knowingly back at them.

Focus, yeah why not and blend in with everyone else !
Recommended wading depth 500 inches, no wait, im sure that was milimetres. And let me get this right. The breakover angle is 80 degrees....??

Ahh, f**k it, Il give it a go anyway

Wildcat sounds good   , the 'Girl Racer' (SWMBO) would love a 5.0 V8  (as would I, but ......... no  )

'Andy Landy'; We've got the Mondeo as a family car, so sadly the Octavia is too big, I looked at that as well yesterday. Nice.
She had a Focus TDCi as an interim lease car unti the 'Works Van' arrived, very nice little motor.
The father-in-law has another FocusTDCi as a company car the moment, he likes it as well.
I had a 90CSW, a factory V8, but it was converted to LPG

Seat Leon or Ibiza 1.9TDI (!30 if they do it), get it chipped and get 50mpg and sporty..... I'm sure Skoda use the same engine too....  Dead impressed by that engine even in 110 and 90 form (see... you know you want a 110 or 90 :) )

Someone suggested Alfa-Romeo, but I want it to still be worth something on 2/3/4 years time

I did venture the phrase;
"How about a (second-hand) 'Impreza RB5' dear??"

Do I need to tell you all what the answer was?
