jimny wheel alignment
« on: February 01, 2008, 13:39:35 »
hi i have a slight problem with my jimny. the road handling is not too good . I have checked the king pins, bushes, ball joints, wheel bearings for play and i have checked the tyre pressures  and it hasn't solved the problem. I recently had the wheels aligned . It might be that they didn't do this correctly or its out of alignment again. I also had the rear panhard rod changed a few months ago because it snapped. any ideas?????

Describe how the problem affects the drive, and what mods have you got?

its a completely standard jimny , its hard to explain . I had an sj and it did the same thing until i replaced the steering damper. its like a ball joint is loose .

Has it just started misbehaving or has it aways been like this. They have a tendancy to follow iregularities in the road surface. But I' get both front wheels off the ground and check for stiffness or nothyness in the steering = king pins. Play in the steering ball joints. Play in all the bearings etc. Then check for damage to the radius arms - suprisingly easy to bend - and all the bushes. Also on mine the bolts through the radius arm to chassis mount were seized in the bush which prevented free movement of the suspension - more of a problem with a lifted vehicle when used off road.

Start with the obvious and work in from there. Even worth checking tyre condition and balance.
