Yes the linkage is adjustable.  Not very common to lose reverse though if they bust :-k

Make sure it's topped up properly with good oil.

Assuming you have the 4 speed then the shifter pulls a cable inner through a sleeve.  This is then connected to the passenger's side of the 'box and in turn pulls a lever that is connected to the valve block inside the 'box.  I can't rtemeber which gear you put it into to do the adjustment though.

Basically if it's not somehting ont he cable/selector that's faulty then it's somehting inside the box which is not good news. I wouldn't want to mess around inside one.

I don't know if this will help, but here goes...

Fluid levels are vital in autoboxes - way back I had an old Rover P6 that stumbled up the road... attend to the levels and, hey presto, smooth as you like!

However, if it needs internal tinkering... try Loughran Bros of Towcester for advice (01327 359167)

I know that they have a 'tame' gearbox guru based at or near Silverstone - not (yet) had cause to use his service, but understand that he is a fine fettler...

Like I said, hope this helps
