Boring Black
« on: February 07, 2008, 11:09:51 »
My Discovery is boring black and I'm a bit fed up with fitting in with the crowd, I don't want folk to think I'm as boring as my paintwork. Can anybody recommend anything other than a change of colour to liven things up a bit, i.e. white stripes etc. My 90 is silver and has black tyre track stickers that break the plain paintwork up and make it more interesting.

Sorry Tom, but would have to disagree with you on this one.

I used to have a metallic black Lotus Cortina 1600E when I was a lot younger and that looked the dogs hairy bits.

I probably wouldn't have a black one by choice today as I don't do cleaning...., except in Fords ;-))......, no, not the motor company..... ;-))

Hello Tom
I've had black cars before as well, I wouldn't touch another black motor. They show every mark and speck of dirt (pristine road going motor that is) and are impossible to keep clean. I think you could be in danger of upsetting owners of black 4x4s though if your not careful. Have you thought about zebra stripes or just loads of stickers, that way you give your motor the individual one off look that I think your after. I think somebody else on this forum has applied black camouflage.

How about some nice reflective stripes in white/silver, wouldn't look boring even at night as you'd certainly stand out from the crowd then. you could have a silver club logo staight across your bonnet and one on the spare wheel cover (just like mine) ;)

sounds like mine!

sort of see what you mean about a plain black disco....

IMO black cars look good with White wheels, and red callipers...

and also agree that black is the worst colour for showing imperfections and dirt! - so just drive it 10miles or so, and it will be grey!

few yelow camel stickers (from ExpensiveBAY) would set it off well

It has been said that, given enough time, a million monkeys bashing at a million typewriters would eventually produce the complete works of Shakespeare. Thanks to the Saxo forums, we now know this to be wrong

Disco Toy .. it looks like you are really really really close to lots of the other west midlands peeps .. in fact I can't believe you haven't seen them doing maintenance days at a place very local to you!!

Not really expecting a reply until school opens up.....

P.S. I have a black LR, a blue LR and a black and silver mitsi...

I've had all colours, but the worst I ever had was a sort of icky red on my stage one....

Nice to know about the local members :P I'll look out for them and try to meet up at some stage. I agree with you about the icky Landrover red it’s a bit dowdy and uninteresting, my favourite colours are bronze green, silver or the gold colour of my moms Discovery.

Try a rusty 90 in white !!! :pale: Every time I washed it it slowly went from BMC Champagne to a strange redy brown colour. The rust seemed to taint the colour. We have a Black SAAB 95 with nice alloy wheels that she drives and doesn't wash. My Disco is Aegean blue with the Blue interior. The interior is a pain to keep clean but I am lucky I can power wash it at work and use the wet vac for the interior. I washed the outside in one of our local water lanes yesterday :D
Old Landrovers dont die they just fade to a red oxide colour.
