Help required for selling price?
« on: February 09, 2008, 18:37:13 »
Hi,

looking through Autotrader I can't seem to get a grip on the asking price for my RRC so I'd appreciate any advice.

Its a 1989 Vogue Efi in silver automatic 4.0 litre GEMS typ with electric sunroof/windows, CD changer and normal buttons and whistles currently with 155,000 on the clock and 12 months MOT, six months tax. Also fitted with 55 litre LPG tank.

However, it was involved in a crash (I think) in 1990 and is registered as Cat C and whilst there is a minimal amount of rust the paintwork is blemished in places.

Now, that's the bad part.

The engine, gearbox, differentials and propshafts were all replaced at 132,000 miles. Since then its had a new steering box, full stainless steel exhaust, K&N air filter, two front innner wings replaced, all with plenty of receipts!

Additionally, its had 1" lift kit fitted including Famous Four springs with gas shocks and polybushes on all but the A fram. Scorpion racing front and rear heavy duty recover bumpers, front steering guard and side steps.

2 x auxiliary horns, new battery, 2 x klaxon horns, 4 x 55w driving lamps (extremely bright!) plus some Cooper off road tyres.

Trouble is, I haven't a clue what to ask as the selling price as I can't find anything similar to use as a guide.

Any ideas? Also, best place to sell as Autotrader may be too mainstream?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, its not Cat C. It just says VCAR, inspected on such and such date 1990 as 'damaged on condition alert' whatever that means?

Don't sell a modded motor in auto trader, wrong market.

Take all the toys off and sell them seperate, return thew car to stock then hope to get a few hundred for it.

GEMS type engine? are you sure :-.  should be a hotwire at that age.

Acording tot eh current LRO, classics have really hit their a*** at the moment, eventually lots will get broken and they price will go back up, especially when you think how cheap the road tac and insurance are for what you get, but right now they seem to be very unloved.

Just quoting what it says on the paperwork regarding the Gems engine but then it also says its a 4.0 when the cam cover states 3.9 so who knows?

Probably some good advice but as I don't have the original parts I'll probably end up keeping and sell the Landy.

So, over to that forum to ask a similar question.

 :D

The difference between a 3.9 and a 4.0 is nothing, the 3.9 is 3942cc, the 4.0 just a few cc more IIRC, just a matter of maths.

the difference between the 2 is the serpentine drivebelt, the oil pump driven by the crank not the dizzy, the 10 bolt heads, the bigger journals on the crank and of course the cross bolted mains.

It's entirely possible that it's the later engine but if it says 3.9 on the plenum then it's still got the hot-wire EFi system.
