Classics Monthly mentioned this in this months mag, and they and the FBCVC (?) can find no trace of any legislation banning 10 year old vehicles anywhere, in UK or Europe.

MYTHS and PETITIONS - AGAIN
The June 2007 newsletter questioned whether
any notice would ever be taken of the on-line
petitions being submitted to Downing Street.
We highlighted one particular petition with
absolutely the right sentiments (calling on the
Prime Minister to reject proposals to ban or
restrict the use of old cars) but with a totally
erroneous explanation. This petition (which
closes in March) has recently been given a
new lease of life with round-robin e-mails
encouraging all and sundry to do the electronic
equivalent of signing.
While we make no further comment on whether
one should or should not sign, we know
that the threats mentioned in the petition’s
accompanying explanation are, as Henry Ford
might have said, bunk.

But in the same newsletter there is good news for owners of older vehicles "German Parliament exempts historic vehicles from urban vehicle restrictions"


As I recall, when the Historic vehicle tax came into effect there were serious concerns that it would lead to restrictions, but nothing came of it back then either.

There was a stage when some car manufactures were petitioning the european government to get all older cars to have a stricter testing schedule. But nothing ever came from it.

There are parts of the world where the use of older vehicles is restricted. I was talking to a customer in Texas who could only do 2,500 miles a year with his Mini. It seems this varies with each State.

Personally I dont abide by the FHBVC. Another umbrella organisation that doesn't actually do much for anyone other than justify their own existence in my view. Fact is, this legislation is or will be introduced sooner rather than later. Either way, we in the classic and historic car fraternity are far too quiet on many issues that adversley affect us so these kind of petitions are important IMV if nothing else other than to get our cause heard.
