the FBCVC (?) can find no trace of any legislation banning 10 year old vehicles anywhere, in UK or Europe.
MYTHS and PETITIONS - AGAINThe June 2007 newsletter questioned whetherany notice would ever be taken of the on-linepetitions being submitted to Downing Street. We highlighted one particular petition withabsolutely the right sentiments (calling on thePrime Minister to reject proposals to ban orrestrict the use of old cars) but with a totallyerroneous explanation. This petition (whichcloses in March) has recently been given anew lease of life with round-robin e-mailsencouraging all and sundry to do the electronicequivalent of signing. While we make no further comment on whetherone should or should not sign, we knowthat the threats mentioned in the petition’saccompanying explanation are, as Henry Fordmight have said, bunk.
There are parts of the world where the use of older vehicles is restricted. I was talking to a customer in Texas who could only do 2,500 miles a year with his Mini. It seems this varies with each State.
