brake rattle.........
« on: February 19, 2008, 14:17:02 »
Anyone know if my 300tdi disco should have some sort of anti rattle springs on the front calipers :? i have just replace a full set of discs and pads allround and there wasnt any anti rattle springs on the front 8-[ unlike the rear that i managed to replace with new!!

Now when driveing a long the front pads are giving full rattle :( to such an extent that i removed the hub and checked wheel bearings again and made sure the pads where the correct ones :D no problems there  so it must be some sort of anti rattle spring that is missing :?

I think I have a similar rattle although more of a clonk when breaking in a straight line and when I get to 5mph it goes clonk just the once. Maybe I have lost my anti rattle springs?

Have a look at the bottom of http://shop.dingocroft.co.uk/acatalog/Drums.html I think that you should have springs fitted.

In the dim and distant past, new pads came with new pins and spring plates. Now it's a seperate kit.
 Should certainly have them though.

oh, is a spring plate the bit of metal between the pin and the side of the shoe? If so, then yes, it should have them. My 300tdi does. a right fiddle to get them to fit.

On vented disk models you should find a coil spring over the retaining pin to help prevent rattles. It doesn't
