I had an early moggie pickup that I used as a daily drive/trash hack.

I decided to sell figuring it was worth £200 or £300. Before I had a chance to advertise it I had a guy approach me on a garage forecourt who basically stuffed £2K into my hand!! and dropped me home! I was a happy man!!  :dance:

I've had 2 mk3 capris, 2 mk2 granada 2.8 ghia X's estate and saloon, and 1 mk3 granada scorpio. Loved them all.

Guy on our estate has a mint Hillman Imp with a M suffix Reg plate  :shock: :shock: :shock:

I'll keep a look-out for that.


Have you seen this?, it's at the Aberford Road end of Ferry Lane?? (on the opposite side, but near the 'lock-up' Spar??)

On my route to work/school-run, there's a chap with a gorgeous SAAB 96, I'll have to try & collar him one day for a proper look at it.

Or the '68(?) Camaro on 'Stanley Hill'???

Chevette, crikey.  Can't remember when I last saw one (other than on TV).

I had one, sadly not a 2300HS (or HSR)

me and my boss are currently restoring a 1948 Bedford K Series Truck (Australian import so no rust :dance:, just every bush and pivot worn out from dry dust and sand :'( ), and he finished a 1956 (i think) Commer Q4 a year or so ago Been shortened for off roading (but my rangie had to recover it and a tractor from the fields), we also have a 1930's Fordson Tractor needing a restoration, will get some pictures when i remember

The commercials are sought after, like so many other classics. The cars get looked after, but commercials get run into the ground so become rarer.
We sold our Minor van many years ago and the phone rang off the wall. Must have had 20 calls in one day. One guy was on his way to buy it (with cash) and another was on the phone saying he'll have it unseen for £50 more  :shock:

Had a wee bit of a muck out of my container yesterday and have bunged some old tat on eblag.
Cortina Mk2 Front and rear lights, SD1 electric mirrors etc, etc.
Why on earth I stripped that stuff off and hoarded it I'll never know!!

Same reason I have a rear light cluster for a MkI spitfire.  I've never owned a spitfire.

I've not seen it since, so I presume it was a customers, not 'For Sale', or a staff members own car

where as his wife had a Dolomite, in red with black roof and the distinctive wording 'sprint' on the back!

Something I've just thought of is the Austin/Morris 1100/1300 range. Much under rated cars, I think. Rusted like crazy though! Mum had a 1966 MG 1100 for a couple of years. I thought it was a great car.

A little remembered fact is that the Austin 1100/1300 outsold the Cortina as Britain's favourite car for most of the 60's, until the Escort was launched.

Something I've just thought of is the Austin/Morris 1100/1300 range. Much under rated cars, I think. Rusted like crazy though! Mum had a 1966 MG 1100 for a couple of years. I thought it was a great car.

I took my test in my Mum's 1965 Morris 1100 - DTT 784C (how's that for a memory!).
Great thing to learn in, but of course then you discovered Ford and there was no contest.

As I remember it, the biggest failing with Ford back then was the cold starting. On a cold morning you could almost hear the starters mashing themselves to pieces while the old A and B series BMC engines would just fly into life!

Ho hum, nostalgia's not what it used to be.

my wife used to have an opel kadett SR . it was a 1977 R reg, TVD400R   , it looked like a chevette apart from the from being different - alos had sports seats, loads of clocks in the centre consol like ammter, oil presure etc... and a full lenght sunroof (webasto?)

gonna try and find some pics of it as it was quite rare even back then.

We drove to Spain (or rather were driven) in my mates dads Chevette when we were 16. That was a fun journey... not. After raging seas across the Bay of Biscay (36 hour crossing!) he took an unfinished road through the mountains. No barriers, no tarmac, big boulders everywhere...... we left half the exhaust somewhere in northern Spain! Now I know who to blame for sewing the offroading seed  :lol: Just not in a Chevette thank you!

There's a saying in the motor industry, "what's the differecne between Opel and Vauxhall?"

"On an Opel the engine goes faster, on a Vauxhall the body goes faster" :lol:

There's little difference between them nowadays but long long ago Opel produced nicer cars like the SI Manta.
