Customers....Grrrr!
« on: February 28, 2008, 14:29:57 »
Just had someone tell me they didn't want an item we ordered in specially. So now we have an obscure set of +0.020" piston rings on stock  I know we should take pre-payment for special orders, but we are a trusting bunch and problems are fortunately rare.

But it makes my blood boil when people do that.

Someone will need them one day and they'll be so impressed you've got them in stock.  :)

But they cost to have on stock..... I know they aren't a huge amount, but it's money that would be better spent on something else. We pride ourselves in our stock control systems. Our turnover of stock value is far better than most in our industry. So simple things like this bug me!

But nice try at cheering me up, Frank  :D

Steve, you can write off stock after 3 years, for devaluation and tax purposes, if you don't do it already ask you're accountant about it. I'm not 100% clear on the laws but it's definitly something like that, I do it every year!

We don't 'need' to get the money back. I'm just airing my annoyance ..... makes me feel better  As Frank says, they'll sell eventually.

Occasionally you get people that have a problem with decisiveness when it comes to other peoples money.

You think that customers are a pain, try tenants !!!.

I'm a gas fitter for the local housing authority and we regularly get people ringing up playing hell that their boiler has packed up so we make an appointment to go fix it and when we get there the ********* have gone out   :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

We've just had a customer return £9,000 worth of stock cause he's thrown his rattle out of the pram over somthing stupid so we've flogged the lot to his biggest competitor at a knock down price ie. the 10% handleing charge he paid

The job would be great if it wasn't for the customers

I had a customer book a course of intensive lessons, a whole weeks course in Jan, so I had to put off my regular lessons as this had been organised before Christmas.

So Monday he rings up on Sunday night to cancell Monday.  Tuesday Morning I'm sat outside his house trying to ring him before I fing out he's not even at home.

In short, a complete waste of the week.  In future I'll have to remember to ask for payment up front.

I once went to a customer who had managed to park his 6 month old bmw on a tree stump half a mile from the road on a wet friday night, i told him there would be a charge, took my jack and odds and sods the half mile to the car, jacked the car up (which was pretty much written off) and told him the charge was £30... he then grumbled and said he didnt want to pay and shouldnt have to pay.. i told him that was fine but i would take his car and charge him storage till he paid up... funnily enough he was happy to pay then!

I worst customers are the ones with lots of money because they change there mind on how they want something doing just as i,m final troweling the wall up.
One woman and a big extension on her house for a kitchen we were there for a week and on the last afternoon as my guys were packing the van up to go home she asked me how much work it would be to move a socket along the work top because her kettle lead was not long enough for were she wanted to put her kettle.Baring in mine i have spent two days boarding and plastering her new extension so i would have had to chop our new plaster work up.
I told her that we would have to remove her new granet work tops so she said that she would live with it.
Jesus was a carpenter but god was a plasterer.
