« on: March 02, 2008, 22:13:39 »
has anyone got advise on smoking engine :roll: blue smoke and oil going down rapidly. things people have guessed at; head gasket, turbo, crank case compression, rings,     its down on power but then it will pick up again for a bit :roll: i have cleaned the air intake around the intercooler pipes etc which was gunged up about 1/4" thick. cleaned the valve thingy where the exhaust gases come back into air intake.....oh sorry forgot to say its a 2002 td4 73,000 miles  8-[

Yep usually crank breather, we replace them on every service now also done on the td6 rangey engine as they are the same but 2 extra pistons.

Try eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-in-box-freelander-crank-case-breather-td4_W0QQitemZ180252510696QQihZ008QQcategoryZ31348QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

There's also someone selling them on there for about £25 (buy it now), although I got one for about £15 a couple of months ago.

Easy to fit, other than the usual nightmare of re-fitting the air filter housing  :shock:

Cheers for that. :cool:
I managed to get the part number off EBay and took it back with me. £30 it cost  :doh:
Managed to fit it by kneeling on top of the engine with my rear in the air. :-$ =;
Just need to cure the brown smoke blowin out under load now  :rolleyes:
122k miles any ideas?

Andy

For £25 each service I'd be fitting a catch tank instead.
