Free wheel hub problem
« on: March 05, 2008, 15:03:23 »
Ok when i disengage the drivers side front hub after being in 4wd the drive shaft is still locked. Its as if the hub itself isnt disengaging when i set it to free...Im assuming its the hub inside thats seized .Will it need cleaning out and freeing off or is it more serious??????

hmm easiest thing to do would just be to take it off and have a look, if it was seized then i doubt youd be able to move the locking mech atall

Take it off and strip it. ISTR someone saying about the locking mech breaking.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

free wheeling hubs seize just inside the housing that you turn to activate, remove six 10mm bolts holding it in place and mark position onto casing witch tip ex/ pen. Then remove hub gently to reveal inner workings, this should be clean, and have grease on it, clean witch brake cleaner and re grease, refit and try it should be ok now. good luck andy

Hub now working again, cleaned up and put back together properly.
The clutch mechanism was floating on the drive shaft doing nothing..
