Remember last night was Friday night, a town full of numpties fighting, drink drivers etc

Its easy to shout "Cut police salaries" but its not the bobbies on the street who deploy the staff to jobs, It could be that you incident was in a queue to be dealt with, then a fight broke out and the staff are deployed to a fight in progress. The next thing you know is you have a couple of prisoners and the rest of the shift is in custody.

I agree we need more Police, PCSO's and Police staff, but in reality we have to make do with what we have got.

Yeah, I can see what youre saying Boggert (obviously you are a PC)  but the britains laws are in a shocking state.  Look at the Tony Martin case in August 1999.  Why cant people protect their own properties.  The law was chaged years ago that you could lethal force to protect property.

I'm not saying you should not be able to protect your own property, I think you should be able to, but it must be a measured response or there will be a lot of people killed and the excuse will be they were on my land.

The justice system needs looking at not the laws, we are seeing people getting community orders for serious assault and assault police. Drug dealers are getting community orders for cannabis cultivation, for gods sake, these people need to be locked up for a few years.

We have a prolific car thief, who we lock up he goes to court and gets 3 weeks then is back out stealing cars again, he is banned from driving x4 and just keeps getting banned again when we catch him, what hell good is that?

Got to agree, the Officers we see (& speak to), be they Traffic, Response, or even CID are all cheesed with spending their time/resources nailing these people for the case to be dropped, or a paltry sentance imposed.

We too get the 'Not In The Public Interest' phrase bandied about.
When I had my nose broken by one of the junkie scum-bag patients, it was touch & go as to whether he got a custodial (especially as he had lots of previous 'form' for assaults)
He got 18th months suspended, still not seen him back in the department for the 'return match' :lol:

It is all down to the CPS, I was arrested over some thing that was clearly above board with paperwork to prove it.  There were 2 directions hearings, a trial, witnesses from all over the country.  Must have cost a fortune, then I was found Guilty :shock: :shock: :shock: Sentenced to 10 weeks and fined £2000......then I took them to the courts of appeal with the same evidence in my defence and won!!!  Now why couldnt they come up with that verdict originally.  It would have saved thousands.....im happy, im buying a TD5 with my compo for wrongful conviction :lol:

I agree with rob, we had a wise guy who had some kids throwing eggs at his house, a pain yes, but all officers were dealing with some serious disorder in the town center.

So he thought it would be clever to say he had a gun and would sort it him self to get a responce, to be fair he got a great responce from an Armed responce vehicle and spent the night in the cell and was charged under fire arms act! Section 17 I think. He was taken out of his home at gun point, arrested, his wife in tears and his shot guns removed. This was a man who had never been introuble with the police.

Not a good idea don't do it. Best case you'll get nicked worst case you'll get slotted!

No , as soon as police hear there may be a gun involved they take it very seriously indeed. They just cant take the risk that its a joke.  Especially if they know there are legal firearms on the premises.  Its the illegal firearms that are the problem 99% of the time.

my friend thought it would be funny to phone the police and say hes just been mugged by a white man  with a skinhead and a gun driving a white escort cabriolet, as i was on my way to meet him i realised there was a police car behind me and then another and another o and a few more, i thought strange, so taking my time driving i pulled away from the traffic lights and went round the corner, there was a police man in the middle of the road, road closed, they surrounded me  guns out, i nearly pooped myself, hands in the air i got dragged out of the car they ripped my car to bits, then i saw the naughty boy at the end of the street laughing,  i was there for a while as they searched my car, then they realised it was a hoax call, ive never had him back on that 1.

but what a thing to think of. hats off to him lol

What would have been really hysterical is if you had made a move that they thought was hostile and you would have been double tapped, the cop who would have pulled the trigger would be suspended pending a murder investigation, a life put on hold.

Could you go out and police an area of 250 square miles with only your oppo beside you for back up? How many cops were on in your area? Do you know the staff levels? Do you know what other incidents were running?

diggerdog36: As for the Tony Martin case, you don't know the full facts. I do. I was involved in the investigation. He should not have been burgled, but he went way beyond 'reasonable force'. If you want to live in a country full of gun toting, John Wayne or Terminator wannabees, move to the States.

Before all the crpa comes back about 'cops speeding, cops going on trips to the seaside'; if they have done wrong, then they pay for it, just the same as the rest of the Public. No sympathy, they know the rules.

Police aren't the only people that are at risk in their jobs, there are people sent out to Iraq and Afghanistan.  Facing suicide bombers, RPG's and even be-headings.

I know police get idiots hoax calling and attacking them out of boredom, and I must admit, every time Ive needed a copper theres been one there within minutes. And I applaud them for that, they do a stirling job.

But I remember an advert for police recruiting on TV, asking Could you keep your cool?...... you obviously cant!!

As for taking the test and joining up....I cant...I fight for my country!

Admittedley, I have not done service in a warzone, but have had to pick up the pieces after my son returned.
I keep my cool every day, so as not to offend certain members of the Public who do not have the ability to sort their lives out without ruining some others life.

Bar a couple of over zealot specials on parking duty I have had nothing but good experiences with the police and that includes being pulled three times in 70 minutes (I was in a white van at 3 in the morning driving around a housing estate dropping friends off after a stag do,and sober) they are doing a job and should be thanked for it... we only have a part time plod station in the village but every time i've rung for help(twice999,once local control room) they've been there quick time ..I understand that at certain times they are over streched and certain crimes take priority .I would be mortified if they came to me because somebody had nicked my car or damaged my house instead of going to a rape or muggging somethings are just more important .

If it's a brake in the the prints will still be there in 12 hours so what does it matter I know I've had three at work .unless there is somebody still in the buliding I don't blame them for leaving it till the morning . I'm not saying any crime is more or less important than another they are all against the law and should be treated as such but the more serious must take president .

I do however think that the punishments should be looked at ,My brother in law got 400 hrs com service for going over on his tacho ,A guy up the street got a £50 fine and 100 hrs for punching out a 50 year old tourist for fun :roll: cops can catch them great but the courts let the system down... And as for hoaxs calls standard sentence =month inside teach them a lesson.

not long, but long enough to see the horrors of the IRA. I was in the RAF.

What I meant to say was, You don’t hear people posting anti armed forces messages on this forum, and quiet rightly, The armed forces are doing a bloody marvellous job under crap conditions, but it seems so easy to come on line anonymously and slag off the police. I for one are fed up with it. If you have an issue with the police take it up with the police force in question, if you are not going to do that then button it.
