Motor Insurance Database.
« on: March 08, 2008, 15:06:18 »
Is you vehicle on the Motor Insurance Database?
Worried that if you get stopped, the info might be incorrect or missing? 8-[
Well you can now check for yourself on the ASKMID website.

If your vehicle isn't on there, is it a business vehicle? If it's covered under a blanket policy, you are legally required to register it on the database. The reason being that it's registration wouldn't show up as being insured individually if it's covered under a general business policy.

Your old black Disco  ;)   My mate had it a few years ago, then part ex'd it for a Volvo car.
Apparently the Disco was later used in a robbery.   Don't know where it is now though.

Why do some tell you the vehicle details and others just tell you they are on the system.......theres the other site that tells you if they are still on the road and when the tax is due.

Handy site, I got stopped on my way to work a 4-30am, vehicle was not on the database showed them my insurance certificate and they were happy, contacted the insurance company to let them know, tried to tax it online a month later still not on the database, got back in touch with insurance company finally got it on the database two weeks later got the insurance renewal through  if I hadn't had the insurance certificate on me I would have been waving goodbye to the Landy even though it was totally legal

nah they wont usually crush it just like that unless you are fully illigaling it out. i think it gets impounded first normally anyway but i have heard of a mobile crusher where they just stick it straight in.

Don't be silly a mobile crusher!

They have to get a court order to crush it, all they can do is stop you driving it until you can prove it is insured. this gives you time to get hold of the paperwork or get your insurer to pass on the correct info to the pigs.

If these details are not correct, check the registration entered or contact your insurance provider.

I've heard that they can conviscate your motor if it doesn't show up on the database. When you do eventually prove they are wrong, you get it back....with a nice bill for storage in their compound.

Not at all, there are a few companies that dont actually register on the MID full stop (the one i am insured with is one of them i found out when i was pulled over a while ago).

In the circumstances that it doesnt show and you say you have insurance they will ring the company in question from the roadside and confirm it.

Although weirdly i must have gotten an officer without much sense the other day.  Purchased my 406 to replace my renault 19 for the moment and transferred the insurance over.  That night the officer in question pulled me over as he did a check on the vehicle and it showed no insurance (takes up to 48 hours to update the MID).  So i told him i had purchased it that lunchtime and that i had transferred the insurance over from my renault and what does he do, checks to see if the renault is insured and then lets me on me way?????

For all he knew i could have just been winging it!
