Yet another tax on motoring
« on: March 11, 2008, 03:45:39 »
An indirect one, but my DSA licence is due for renewel and as of the 31st of this month it has gone up 50% to £300 to be registered as a driving instructor.  They are blaming the cost of keeping the register of driving instructors at the DSA.

That would dbe the DSA that recorded a massive profit last year then...........

Already the Micra is the most expensive car I insure, fuel has got ludicrous as you all know and on top of all this we are expected to take PCD training in our own time and pay for it ourselves, on top of the cost of qualifying and buying the car in the first place.

So if your lessons have gone up to over £20 an hour don't blame your instructor, chances are he/she is seeing less than £10 a lesson which realistically takes 1 1/2 hours to deliver.

I think I'll be heading for another change in career soon.

Yes I forget, the area I work in is over-saturated with instructors and the prices are not as high, though lots of instructors have ceased trading.

There was a time when a 1 hr lesson cost the same as the test :-.  I'd love to be taking £50 an hour nowadays

I came to my own conclusion well over a year ago that the DSA is nothing more than a profit making organisation ran by the government.
