No not the furry four legged ones :lol: the company next to us at work fit refrigerated bodies onto vehicles, they do alot of the tesco,asda delivery vans etc, so their yard always has about 20 chassis cab merc sprinters in it. today they get in to work to discover 12 are missing the catalysts from the exhausts :shock: some scrotes have been in and painstakingly removed them and had away with the lot
anyway the  were called and its a growing problem as they are after some precious metal thats in them?? anyone else heard of this?

Yer, from what i understand there is a small amount of platinum and rhodium in every catalysts which reduce the nitrogen oxide emissions. but as to how they would get it out i dont know?????

we keep getting drive by scrap stealing  :roll: they roll in the yard load up and speed off before anyone can stop them, not had it at our depot yet but a couple of the company,s other ones have

watch out for for ford transits anything thats fairly high chassis. Keep you eyes peeled and set up cctv if needs be.

last time we weighed our cats in we got £25 a cat yesterday another trader got £50 a cat

£50 a cat is about right, they are worth a lot more if they are OEM not replacement which are worth £10 (makes you think :-k).

TBH any scrappy taking brand new cats in must know they are dodgy, they just don't care and if they have a waste licence to dismantle cars then those few will always take the risk of handling stolen ones.

As they say, where there's muck there's brass, never more true than in the scrap trade.

So next time I weigh in a car I should cut the cat off it first and weigh that in separate?  Is it metal dealers who give you £50 for them or breakers?  I've found breakers give you nothing for a 10 year old MOT failure but the local metal dealer gave me a little over £100 for an escort last month - definitely worth cutting the cat off if that's an extra £50

i dont know we got some one who comes and collects them, but scrap steel is £110 a ton now

It depends how savvy the scrappy is, the one my mate was suing would lift eh car and check for a cat, then the price per tonne depended on whether it was there or not.

But scrap is up, nomore paying to get rid of a car.
