just read the thread on the series 3 club and it brought tears to my eyes, perhaps this topic should be in the "joke" section. poor mr lawnmower, everyone has to start somewhere and its people like that on there that keep the mechaincs rich. i know brakes are important but even a mechanic is gonna take it round the block to see if they've fixed it

I'm so glad its not like that on here

MC forever  :D

I love you guys.

You put up with posts like that from me

PS  don't worry there is no way I would touch brakes or anything else I could 'kill'

Everybody has to learn at first

 Phew, after reading that thread im glad we dont have any of that on here. O.K hes driveing a death trap, but we all started somewhere and at least he wasnt embarest enough to ask for help. But to rip in to him like that is disrespectful and Frank should be ashamed of him self. H eonly wanted some advice not shooting. By what i can make out he wasnt driveing his landy any distance only up the road a couple of times to try brakes out, and lets be honest weve all done that at some time or other.

 Right go on. You can all s**g me off now.....

:D Ill still love ya in the morning. :D

OK chaps, I've tried to be subtle, but it hasn't worked.

If you have issues with the Series 3 club forums, please direct them to the administrator of the Series 3 club site.   It is not our place to criticise the way another site is run, or how queries are dealt with.

Please be positive and helpful...  if people ask questions of us, let us hope we answer them in the most productive way possible.

Mud-Club was set up to avoid exactly these sort of issues.

Hello! :D

Well thanks for the support guys. Don't quite get where 'he-who-cannot-be-named-and-must-be-obeyed' was quite coming from. Perhaps he mistook me for yourself TechnoTurkey?

The situation with the brakes went like this:
-The landrover is my hobby car, NOT my main car.
-Car pulled to left under braking.
-Bought new brakes shoes and tried to fit them.
-Drum was covered in oil, and missing screws and brackets; the vehicle is older than me, and surprisingly enough I have not been the only one to own or fix it.
-replaced what I could and for some reason I tested the brakes.
-After testing the brakes, which needed pumping to work properly, posted on the forum,
-Car is on my driveway waiting to be repaired because for some reason I didn't want to drive it with naff brakes.
-Melodramatic answers involving police and super qualified mechanics only being able to fix brakes.
-Picked up spare/missing parts this morning from a shop (would have done it on Sunday, but they were shut)
-Intend to fit them myself. If I make a bodge then I may consider a garage after I get paid.
-If I had the spare cash to take my vehicles to a garage to do routine servicing then I would be driving a Nissan Patrol/Landcruiser/unimog

Anyway, if this thread was on 'that' forum, then it would have been deleted long ago.

Hi all!

TechnoTurkey,

Want to come to Toms, but my MOT is due the week before :(

So depending on that really:
Needs-
Woking speedo
Working Sidelights (these both took a battering on the last visit :D

Possable Fuel Injector pump or may fail emissions

May need some welding :(

And brakes :D

oh, and the gear box jumps out of 1st and 2nd.

Speedo and Lights should be easy enough to sort.

Welding - not much I can do with that, depends on how bad it is to whether or not its doable in time.

Brakes - should be able to sort them in time I hope, engage the services of SamRo if needed.

Emmisions - detune it to pass, if that works with a diesel.

The heat is on

Exactly.  The disco got through it's MOT with no speedo.

I'm going to have to get round to fixing that at some point.  It's been a few months now.

I think if the vehicle was registered before sometime in 1978 then it wont need a hook up exhaust test for emmisions if its a diesel. As long as its not producing thick fog it should be OK.
Antone feel free to correct me if this info is naff - but I'm sure I read it in the MOT section of my Haynes Manual

Thanks people!

I tdidn't explain the speedo problem very well. It's not that i fitted new tyres-235/70 R16, road bias :(  and it reads wrong, its that the speedo and mileage counter have stopped working. Think it might be as simple as a loose conection behind the speedo, tricky to get at though.

As for the exhaust, theres also a hole in it, have got some putty for this, will block it somehow :D

Your comment about fog though isn't that far wrong :( , tends to be worse on a cold engine though, so hopefully will drive it the 10 miles to the MOT-while u-wait. might stop smoking by then.

Hope to finish/fix the brakes/hub tonight. so hopefully can stick it in its MOT on sat, find out whats it fails on, then hopefully will not need to much welding etc to for its retest.

-dropped my lamp last night and the bulb went. :!:  end of work.
