Runabout for the summer...
« on: March 24, 2008, 23:37:45 »
Just bought this. I'm hoping it will provide reliable transport until the 90 is finished. Appears to be close to mint condition so I should get my money back when I sell it  :D
Had a lower spec one a few years ago. Not the most exciting car, but solid and reliable.

No, last of the 190E's. This one's a 2.0 petrol automatic. All electric windows, electric sunroof, AMG alloys.

That looks a lovely car!

Should easily see 300k (serviced properly)!

Shame it's not got air! looks like a 2.6 sat there, with the wheels and roof.

Are you going to take pictures at Runhall from it like you did in Sarah's FL last time?

As long as the numbers on the speedo still start with a 1 and not a 2 then that was a good buy, and you will get your money back, I know a man that can help when the time comes ;)

Chicken!

Not here but somewhere in Euroland they did a 4matic one of them..... chuck some MT's and some Sprinter Springs at one of them and you've got yourself an "Off Roader"

Shame its not a Glendenwagen, but hey ho

Surprising then.  Since I had thought that the C had 'narrower' wheel arches.  My father's 230TE has wider wheel arches, and it also sports the same alloys that are classed as standard as far as we know.  No AMG badges or anything on them.

Not sure about the alloys. It's just what I've been told. But it's definately a 2.0 190E  :D I think you'll find the 'C' class followed this a year or so later.

BTW, I had a 1988 230TE a few years ago too  :D

Ahh, okay.  Very nice anyway. :)  Our 230TE is a '92 model, rolling onto 250,000 miles and still runs fine with top compression on the engine.   But the Jetronic engine management can't half give a headache when it goes wrong.

The alloys are the "standard" items, but back in that day everything had to be paid for, the 190 and the 230te for that matter had windup windows, no sunroof and steel wheels with trims, Steve (V8Moneypit)'s car has optional Electyric Windows, Metallic Paint, Sunroof, Alloys And Music! you had to pay extra for music, even on the first C-Class, there was a doctor at Addenbrooks about 6 years ago that was still without music, no head unit and no speakers!

There was no AMG Back then, there was a "Sportline" kit for it, TBH it looks best standard.

I had heard that tale before about so much of what appears to be 'standard' on these motors being optional.  I suppose you got exactly what you wanted this way.

Anyway, I think the only reason why our 230TE has so many of the options going (sunroof, electric windows etc. and much much more) is because it was Mercedes-Benz themselves who owned it as a promotional motor for the first year or two!

Oh, and by golly are these motors nice to drive.  I want one for myself.

The 124's are superb, I had a 300te, 1990 "G" and took it to eurodisney, 7 people, roof box, 160,000 miles and she went like a steam train there and back, I even managed about 28mpg on cruise at 3 figs most of the way in france.....  I sold it to a mate, it still goes strong at 250k

My memory of the 230TE was towing a horse box with 2 'full size' horses and a Shetland in it, plus the entire rear of the car packed up to the roof and right up to the front seats with junk (Sarah's stuff!). This was from Glasgow to Norfolk. And Sarah asked if we could but a couple of rabbit hutches on the roof   You can guess the answer, I'm sure!
