Highways agency

Been up to wolverhampton today from sussex and noticed that on the M40 there are now loads of blokes swanning around in nice shiny 4x4,s(not sure of make) all stickered up so they look alot like the old bill but are actually the highways agency. have this lot now taken over the motorways? only spotted one police car at an accident at warwick during the whole journey and they were outnumbered by the highway men again who were making sure all was safe etc.
Also saw a range rover sport caught up in the traffic jam as well :D

There do seem to be a lot more 'incident support' staff around.  I guess the theory is that if you have them to stand around and wave at the traffic / sweep the roads, then you don't need as many Police on the scene of an incident.

Would get my vote, except I think they are doing it so they can reduce the number of Police rather than redeploy them  :?

I've spotted them about, with the battenburg pattern checks, lightbar and everything - everyone else spots them and slam the brakes on as well  :roll:

Think the agency blokes must love it swanning round in a new Range Rover pretending to be old bill.

Hows the amazons by the way - had a go with them yet?

Wonder what the pay's like?

I was speaking to a mate who works for TRL (formerly Transport Research Laboratory), and he was telling me that 'Cone Chuckers' (the people who set out roadworks) are on £40,000pa.

I was kinda tempted by that idea for a while, until I thought about it and realised that it would involve standing in the middle of the M1 at silly times in the morning, in all weathers, surrounded by motorists who had left their brains at home.
